This isn’t really a doomer post or anything but it’s just something I think I need to vent about a little. This game’s absurd grind and lack of data transferring between files makes hopping on an alternate save feel less like a new adventure but an almost unplayable slog that no one in sound mind could digest. Not to mention that replaying the story over and over again gets grating too, though unfortunately it feels like the story was MADE to be dogshit because there’s a 500 robux gamepass to literally skip 100 levels and majority of the bronze sea story arc
With due time I’ll probably add more complaints here but yeah AO’s demanding nature and ridiculous featurecreep is genuinely insufferable to have to deal with
Why do you still play then? Why continue making yourself suffer for a game you find ridiculous and tedious to grind for?
I get that you’re frustrated (rightfully so since I’ve felt the same at times), but I feel like Vetex is going to be sitting on his high horse and practically refusing anybody else’s complaints or whatever unless it’s a game-breaking issue.
I do agree that some things like Dragon’s Blessing, Professions, Fleets, etc should be transferred between files but I don’t really feel like it hurts replayablity as a whole. It does reduce motivation for anyone to play a new file and it is stupid to expect players to start from stratch for simply wanting to try something new. However, I feel like if you genuinely enjoy playing AO, you’d probably have 1-2 main slots you play most consistently with other files being dedicated to simply trying new builds.
Tbh I think your point on the story is a nothingburger. Of course you’d have to replay the story if you’re starting a brand new file, that’s a no brainer. Besides, you don’t have to do the story only. You can level up to the the max cap, complete exploration of the Bronze Sea (I’ve chatted with ppl on Discord who’ve been like this and they enjoy that it seems), or anything else before finishing the story. I’m also pretty sure Vetex added the 500 Robux gamepass, not just to make extra income but because people have asked for it in the past. It only appears when you do the storyline conventionally on one file so I don’t really see the problem of a gamepass to skip the storyline existing.
I feel like “demanding nature” kind of depends on what kind of person you are. Arcane Odyssey is an sea based RPG and I feel like its natural for the game to have a lot of features and side content.
The alternative of adding features would be to instead focus purely on adding story content and new skills but wouldn’t we run into the same issue that we are in now? Lack of replayablity. I think the amount of side features of AO is what kept me playing, I had only around 750 hours at the start of Full Release and approaching 6 months after I’ve now got 1550 hours which I’ve spent Fishing, Dark Sea Runs, Omen Hunts, Dragon Hunts, Diving, Charting, etc.
Without the “featurecreep” I definitely wouldn’t be playing AO as much, but I can see why it might be preferences. Anyhow though, Vetex is focusing on story now, so features wise it won’t really be a thing to be concerned about as much as the last 2 years, so I hope at least, but who knows.
My biggest gripe with the game is probably just the dragonblood/profession/fleet/title stuff not being a universal feature you progress across all files
I mean I kinda get not wanting level 10 freshies at Redwake making 5 effect potions but I feel like something like a level lock is a reasonable solution
I couldn’t even get through half of the story without getting bored out of my mind man that’s one of the reasons I quit. Vetex really needs to revamp the story and change some of the dialogue to be less boring, especially since that’s what he wants his game to be played for
