Meanwhile, The Miss Molly
~Selene’s Perspective~
I sigh and look out to the horizon, where the sun is slowly setting, colors bleeding across the sky. My legs hang over the edge of the huge boat known as the Miss Molly. It’s smaller than the Borealis, but it’s still pretty big. And it’s still operational.
I look at the notes the Bellona handed to me about my target.
Target is male, 45 years old. As stated previously, he is connected to the upper echelons of the Underworld. He will most likely be in hiding. There is a possibility that the Shining Pirates have discovered that they have been compromised and will try to kill the target themselves. Description of target is below.
If the Shining Pirates may get involved, then that means I could run into Cassius. I shudder instinctively. The last time we fought…
I swing my legs onto the ground and stand up. I walk down the stairs and walk to my caravel. I walk into the cargo hold and lay down on my sleeping roll. Sleep overtakes me almost immediately, and I fall into dreams.

20 years ago, Lageros
The young boy sat in the corner of the schoolyard, where no one could see him.
It had been one month since it was discovered he couldn’t use magic. And in the span of that one month, he was already nursing bruises and cuts.
His mother was a well respected mage from the town, his father missing ever since a dangerous storm ravaged the island 3 years before while he was away. Everyone expected him to be a powerful mage, just like his parents.
But what people didn’t realize was that magic is not passed through bloodlines. And because of that misconception, he was ostracized when his inability to use magic was discovered. No one wanted to be associated with a disappointment.
He looked at the other children playing together. One of them made eye contact with him and flinched. He looked down.
A young girl watched the boy silently. Black hair, light skin, she couldn’t be any more different than the boy who had caught her eye. She was discovered to be a mage with shadow magic, and as a studious individual, people believed she was destined for greatness.
She stood up and walked to the boy. He looked up, confusion evident on his face. She held out her hand to the boy, a sweet, innocent smile on her face.
“Hi,” the girl said. “I’m Selene Liannos. What’s your name?”
The boy looked at the hand before hesitantly taking it.
“Cassius,” he said quietly. “Cassius Nevos”
The girl smiled.
“Do you want to be friends?” she asked.
The boy hesitated slightly before answering her question with a quiet voice.
“Yeah,” he replied. “I do.”
Thus began an arcane friendship.
