Are you satisfied with Arcane Odyssey?

I am satisfied with the game. I’ve had hours of fun playing it and have thoroughly enjoyed pvping with its unique style of combat.

And even if PvP continues to become harder to engage in as time goes on (endless grinding, and I feel like the PvP community is smaller than before), AO was never going to be a PvP-centric game, so I have to respect it.

I’ll never be able to answer this without bias

I’ve played for years, monetized a youtube channel off of it, and learned how to edit videos because of it (which has taken me quite far, tbh). I run a 2k-member server for the game (that i rarely play anymore), and it’s been both a core part and, honestly, a detriment to some areas of my life (no game deserves this many hours).

However, my current opinion is while the game is headed in a good direction, I’m struggling to understand the overall benefits that TGR actually provided versus fixing WOM

Additionally, the game will always be a vetex game, and unless he as a person changes quite a bit, I don’t know if I’d bet on the game’s future success

Ript situation aside, at no point in time was he particularly receptive to community feedback, and development has been gruelingly slow for a better part of AO’s existence.

I’ve also begun to realize that AO’s story, one of the highlights of the game, feels like a nothingburger. I don’t know why I’m actually supposed to like any of the main cast; I was able to predict Allanon’s girlfriend’s death 5 minutes before it happened (much to the annoyance of my clan members), and I’m not sure I’d recommend the game to anyone I know, even for the ones who LIKE roblox RPGs.

There’s also the plethora of features that feel like they’re just there to annoy the player and/or keep them playing to salvage the game’s already disappearing playercount.

The PvP scene hasn’t really improved much (global downscaling may help?) and performance is and will always be a problem.

I wouldn’t be mad if vetex decided to do another TGR, this time to focus on improving the story and optimization, but I can’t even say for a fact I’d come back after the time it would take.

If I told 12 year old me, who was playing WoM on the family computer, this is where the game would end up, he’d probably be disappointed.

welcome to arcane dungeons a top down bullet hell game

Remember don’t fix something if it ain’t need fixing… or else you’ll end up making a problem like ript did.

AO has high highs and low lows. Sometimes while playing it I’m having an absolute blast and then other times I’m wondering why I ever went started playing at all

… By most accounts I’ve heard, the “optimization” was neutral at best and negative for players at worst.

Also, yeah, A.I. usually does mean automatically bad when it comes to this stuff because it can only output the average of what it’s learned to do. It cannot account for a developer’s unique grasp of the programming language—something which is especially the case with Vetex “Performance? What’s that?” Games.

Also also, Ript, by my understanding, had limited to no actual programming skill and literally just used A.I. to try and do his job for him. Lo and behold—we have more bugs than ever, and no optimization.

even from just a gameplay perspective, the story is not that fun

its either walk/sail between places, click through usually uninteresting dialogue, beat up fodder, or get castrated by some bullshit boss

the only fun fight in the entire story is calvus because he is difficult[1] but still built around the game’s combat mechanics

  1. at least for the first time, but every video game boss ever created gets easier the more you fight them ↩︎

Also, I wish we had more meaningful choices in the story besides.

i cant really blame him for this because if he made such choices actually affect the story, the amount of time needed to develop it would be astronomical

The game should’ve genuinely been Arcane Adventures with a modern touch. Just discovering islands and meeting fun npc’s inside a grander narrative.

You can still see some of the whimsy in Bronze Sea NPC’s, while Nimbus has none that I remember. All the Nimbus people are boring and serious and overall have nothing special. Contrast to the push ups girl in redwake, the “Luffy” in sailor’s lodge, or the munera knight dude. These are fun npc’s to meet and they are dwindling as the story goes on.

Maybe not like… MAJOR changes, but perhaps just a few things other characters could reference back to later on, depending on what we say or do?

arcane odyssey will be a 1 for not specifically giving wind conj a 1000% attack buff

I am terrified of the day when she stops doing push-ups and gets into a fight. She’ll destroy half of Redwake by sheer accident from her strength.

I’d be neutral in this. I’m very sure that AO can gain even more players if it would update more often, and we would get small, but constant leaks from the devs on future updates. If I’m being brutally honest, I think the Dragons Update was entirely useless, since it was only cool for about a day or two, and the only ones who would actually enjoy it are people with good PCs, or YouTubers like ChapTate and Adamrizky. This update definitely changed my opinion on the game a bit. Even the drops, and arcanium weapons were mediocre. I’m not trying to sound like a spoiled brat, but I’m just stating my opinion, and I think that this says a lot about the game’s state at times, especially now. But looking at the more positive side, Arcane Odyssey has been my favorite game since I first played it, and there were times when it showed its true potential as a game. Development has never been easy, obviously. Even now, I think AO is still capable of succeeding.

I mean that the game isn’t complete and that there is time and room for improvement obviously, we’re still in nimbus if you didn’t notice.

He was removed because he wouldn’t stop.

You are incredibly misinformed if you think that the game is in a complete state or that ript was thrown out for no reason.

no youre completely right

especially arcanium weapons, literally NOBODY likes them (except maybe the mages that need the crutch, not me though, cause im a cool mage)

I enjoy arcane odyssey due to the current games on the market and their quality… which is to say that if the gaming industry didn’t seemingly halt on innovating on ideas and concepts and making quality products that aren’t all high fidelity slop, arcane odyssey would be ranked lower.

Since there’s unfortunately not a lot of games that have the qualities that I like to see in them nor the genre that I enjoy playing.

Why, the choice is vital! It’s the difference between your magic’s piss aura suffering from kidney stones or not!

It has learned enough to output better than average significantly better in fact since the last couple of years.

Ript in reality used AI as a tool not as the creator, the bugs that arrived were from the reverted version and hence Vetex’s own attempt to refactor the server for “optimization reasons”

Many folk can agree it was used as a tool, as when he streamed in one of your voice channels in vetcord with easily double digit folk.

Right…
No.

The game he has created virtually solo, Veilbound, wouldn’t be so well made if it was just all AI, it’d be unable to be updated as Ript funnily enough wouldn’t have context as the AI was the creator, he has merely used AI as a tool, just as I have during my own programming due to the sheer usefulness.

No offense to you or anyone thinking what the AO lead said it’s true; don’t take things at such face value, do a little research instead.

what? so the game isnt gonna get any more updates then

i guess bro
