the person lurking this thread is probably rolling right now reading this
eh…
I would say it started around… here
since you started nitpicking
Where have you said anything useful.
Tell me.
i was just asking a question lmfao
ofc if I had to be honest I would perfer
over these merchant changes
head back to my first post where out of the kindness of my heart i pointed out that alchemist was a filled role (hinting that you should probably name this something else) and then gently reminded you that merchants, do in fact, sell reagents and catalysts now. i proceeded to half-side with you that merchants could typically sell useless items, but they had some scenarios of convenience where they’re useful. i finished by telling you that i thought the chef changes were good, but that you underestimated merchants (and with my earlier sarcasm, cannoneers as well)
that’s a pretty weird suggestion as it implies what already existed to an even more specified degree. juice your merchant on busted shit so they resell you an infinite quantity of it
which, spoiler, is what happened in… .36? and why the economy got nuked
All you did was come off as being an asshole with nothing worthwhile to say desperately reaching for an argument.
And you’re still doing that.
I don’t find you funny.
but you need to find it
and also it is not guarentted
it is basically creating a thinned loot pool
and there is still no guarentee of rare+ (see the 1/500 chance for a rare to appear)
if i came off as an asshole, that’s your interpretation but nothing said there was meant to be argumentative or hostile, i shared my criticism of your suggestion calmly and reasonably
You’re lying.
Either that or you’re an idiot.
Pick one.
notice how you’re still being hostile, accusatory, and name-calling
Case in point.
Lying it is.
I’ll tell you this straight up, I’m not going to pretend that I’m happy with what you’ve done here.
… he isn’t being hostile …
mabey you should go back to twitter
im not very happy either since you can’t seem to handle a differing opinion in a reserved manner and act like some know-it-all in control of everything
i don’t want to play the blame game but you very quickly escalated this for no reason

I’m not too interested in the argument about whether merchant is already worth the slot because it might sell a cosmetic item you’re looking for, though I do have some concerns:
I think this is too much - in particular, double-brewing every potion is a lot of potions, especially with the alchemist also providing a plentiful source of ingredients. Alchemist/merchant exclusively selling useful items (potion reagents) is already a massive buff, especially with exotic reagents added back to the pool.
I also think this is too much to do with non-ship mechanics - ideally I should be making decisions about how to make the best ship, rather than decide whether I want to have a strong ship, skip hours of grinding, or access to the best consumables.
I like the idea of the chef providing bonus scales, and I think he should lean more into that, improving the value of crew fishing rather than acting as a stackable copy of the cooking skill. You could have high level chefs increase the odds of your crew catching gold/legendary fish, in addition to the bonus scales, and this would also improve the food he produces (since more of it is good fish).
I like how merchant sells items useful for upgrading other deckhands - despite them having no direct impact on your ship, merchants are still indirectly useful towards getting a better ship.
I’d personally keep merchant as a merchant, and just adjust the shop to make them more useful towards improving your other deckhands.
Take out the useless “cosmetics” (who is wearing a deluxe leather helmet for the drip?) and put low level gems back in the shop. Perhaps they could also sell “trinkets” or something that function as good gifts for deckhands, or they could just exclusively sell equipment that other deckhands on your ship would consider to be a good gift.
A intresting idea would be that chefs “cook and clean the fish taking more scales off the fish due to their specialisation”
so they cook automatically so that they get +[0,1,1,2,2] scales when cooking
what if we also could provide the chef with extra foods that they will use along cooking the fish (provide the man with sky pumkins)
