In my experience, as I’ve played the game, I’ve been relentlessly hunted. Spawned into the game with 500k+ Renown? Hunter appears miraculously and starts hunting me at Mach 3. Resistance build. Can’t fight it without grapples. Keeps trying to hide away from me to avoid being Love Gel’d. Working my way back up to 500k Renoun because I like big number? Pair of hunters from a group are summoned to my location and chase me, like hitmen sent by some dude who camped me on my brig. Yes, on my brig. Repeated killing, on the brig. Where I could do nothing.
The crux of the issue is the spawn shield. Anyone who plays the game knows the shield exists IF YOU DO NOT MOVE.
Responses I got on the Discord
“wElL jUsT dOnT mOvE”
Brig despawns.
I am probably forced to move as a result, removing the shield.
I had chests I wanted to sell.
The enemy is stuck in the brig backroom even if I set sail.
”wElL jUsT lEaVe”
I have (or had) charts when I was being randomly hunted down.
I have chests to sell.
There might be a friend I was wanting to help out, or I have a trade I wanted to do (marketplace).
The servers are broken (again), and only a few are not broken.
Why am I supposed to give up that position of luck and fortune for a person worth less than my aging shoes?
“*incoherrent screeching (was I supposed to be offended or was it supposed to be funny?)*“
Not a response
Those were just insults.
Not even a bit constructive.
I get this a lot.
Yes, my takes are that spicy. There are children in the server, but I can’t tell who’s who, but this isn’t a hit piece on the Discord, this is my complaints.
The only real solution to camping - as I will eventually post per my requirement of 15 days’ “I exist”, is to extend the shield duration and make the brig actually safe during this period.
Yes, you will start crying if it became real, but the purpose is to give people a head start to avoid camping.
What do I intend with this?
I know nobody’s just gonna… steal the idea, because if I wanted to actually write it (I will), I’d go into really specific detail to the millimeter. Consider this a public “first draft” of potential ideas, and a reminder that I hate toxicity. If you want a problem solved, you need to either send it home and have it re-evaluate its life choices, or have it completely incinerated with no traces left to begin with. Sandpaper to Egyptian glyphs detailing their past life and history and all.
Extend shield duration
Make the shields have a 30 second timer, that starts ticking when you press any movement key, before they dissipate; this can be foregone by attacking, and dissipated immediately. You don’t spawn holding any item, so this should be easy to not mess up.
During this time, you also can’t be bounty hunted as a result of this. So, your poster will instead update every poster cycle, rather than the moment you spawn.
Yes, this is a reasonable assumption. Have you tried hunting for someone who doesn’t exist?
oh, and NPCs should totally ignore your presence, similar to having invisibility, and aura sensing shouldn’t work, because you’re covered in a barrier that protects you from the outside world,
Safer Brig
Make the brig incredibly safe. That means, if you spawn on it:
people can’t attack you or the brig until you arm your cannons
ram into someone (aggressively, mind you, accidents happen, these are really soft taps compared to actual ramming)
and either the entire brig or the windows of the brig become intangible to hostiles during this invulnerability period, and said hostiles cannot be welded to your ship during movement.
This could just also mean making the ship invisible during this duration. Wonder Woman invisible fighter jet style.
This also means disabling candle extinguishing from other players. It’s just toxic if you aren’t there to take the chests.
It also means you are more in line with NPC ship combat; you can’t loot a ship for its full reward until you sink the ship rather than kill the crew.
This should be EXTREMELY reasonable, especially for players who hoard until 30+ chests.
Yes, that also means disabling brig despawn for spawning on said brig, unless you happen to not be choosing to spawn there (Dark Sea being a reason).
If for any reason you think I’m utterly insane for suggesting such “dangerous” topics like fixing the major problem this game suffers from, please review the “Why are we nerfing high renown” topic for the inspiration for this conversation I wanted to have.
A reminder that this is more of a public “first draft” - NOT a Suggestion. Yet.
Gonna play the devil’s advocate here, if you’re 300k+ renown you should fully expect to be hunted down. Yes it sucks that people can camp you on your ship but if you’re planning on getting high renown then you should expect to be harassed
I agree with all your points, but the way I see it is being over 300 or 500k renown forces you to dedicate all your time to PvP. Charts? Gank. NPC hunts? Gank. Fleet system (with no raven)? GANK. Unfortunately you either turn PvP off or nimbus sea becomes discount Elysium
oh my god when will people realize that farming renown like this fully intentionally is going to get you jumped endlessly. just get rid of it if you hate being ganked.
there’s your solution.
I don’t care if you ‘like big number’, the big number represents how much people want to farm you. If you get big number, you better be ready to fight for it.
I am so tired of seeing people whine about getting ganked while actively making themselves a target and refusing to stop making themselves a target.
Go below 250k renown and THEN complain if you’re getting ganked, and at that point just pvp toggle, it isn’t hard.
It doesn’t sound like he wants to really fight or climb the leaderboard.
I cannot understand why people farm renown if they aren’t planning to deal with all the bullshit that having high renown leads to.
That’s totally fine, you’re allowed to play Devil’s Advocate.
The main complaint is that people could do that freely. No punishment. No losses. No way to fight back.
Harassment from players because I’m at 500k is fine, but when it becomes a game of “do it because someone just spawned”, it falls under, well, “use them as a rung of a ladder to climb the leaderboards”.
Isn’t that a bit weird, though? I personally understand that, yes, I can get ganked for being high renoun. But if I’m the 7th player complaining about it, either a: I’m part of a loud minority, or b: Activity can determine when someone is and isn’t around, so you could have seen 14 if you were on all the time. Not a knock on you, though. Just that it might be possible there is a situation brewing and ongoing.
This part is just false. I assume you’ve seen 3 players complain about it, and assume that any time it’s mentioned, it’s exclusively “I’m being farmed, send help!”. I had a general complaint about the system, including that as ONE of my points. Avoid poisoning the well by turning people into statistics and devaluing them to that single number, whilst telling them to not do something to avoid a problem that affects people globally…
Additionally, if I like my big number going bigger, I shouldn’t be seen as a giant loot pinata for builds designed to win by default. (see: resistance/regen builds built to be invulnerable if you don’t have Armor Piercing, their only counter) (see: aggressive size builds designed for lag and anti-PvP, whose only counter is Love, if you could hit them in the first place)
TL;DR: Giving people bandaids for their severe lacerations due to a major accident that occurred is not going to prevent future injuries. You’re only downplaying the problem to a severe degree, worse than those participating in it.
The 7th person I’ve seen whine about it since the game released several years ago because most people can solve their own problems when given the tools to do so.
Then what are you doing with 500k bounty?
People who want to PvP but don’t want to be on the leaderboard already have a solution, the camp marker.
As long as you’re below 500k bounty, you can spawn wherever you please.
Ganking used to be a serious problem in the game, it isn’t anymore.
You have all the tools you could ever want to avoid it.
If you’re ignoring those tools and throwing them away because you want to be stubborn, that’s your own fault.
If you want to stop getting targeted, then stop making yourself a target.
I’ve already stated why I am carrying 500k Bounty: I don’t really engage with the camp marker system, and I personally just like the number big. I don’t wish to repeat myself multiple times, especially when reasons are visible above.
I also don’t personally enjoy the current state of PvP, nor have I ever mentioned anything about wanting to do PvP myself, at least, in its current state; that was a presupposition you created to fight me over.
I recommend amending your argument to contain at least one less insult. Sure, I could be stubborn, but you’re also trying to tell me to change my behaviors to fix a problem everyone has, especially when I am not the vortex causing the issue in the first place.
Victim blaming is a- you know what, I’m just gonna ring the bell and increment the counter, everyone gets the point. It’s just a repeat of the above counter: That’s an Insult. Not an Argument.
…a problem created by a community’s (less than collective) decisions to capitalize on, especially when much higher value targets that one could hunt down for greater reward exist, instead. It’s a problem of greed and sloth.
I’m less willing to put up with the problems of having so much renown because of the fact that the people who are part of the problem are part of it in such a terrible way, and give me little wiggle room (or lack thereof) to fight back in.
Objection. This is an Ad Nauseum attack, I’m calling it here. You’ve repeated yourself multiple times despite my already posted point about this being a problem many people suffer from (or can suffer from). And all you’ve done is say the same thing, in different words: “It’s your problem that you have so much renown, ditch it or suffer.”
I really don’t think it’s worth continuing to argue with you, though, if you just continue this train of victim blaming, attacking people, and then repeating yourself until you’re hoarse. I want the well clean and pure, but I don’t want to have to constantly defend it from you, either.
Yes!
That’s how having high renown works.
You get leaderboard points and leaderboarders want them.
You fight them off to get more and hop on the board yourself or you get kicked off to be used as a stepping stone for someone else.
If you aren’t climbing the leaderboard then ditch them, they are a burden.
I am telling you how to fix your problem in its entirety and how to never have to deal with it again.
You are saying ‘nuh uh I dun wanna’
