IDEA NOT MADE BY ME, IT IS @arron932 's IDEA, IF YOU LIKE IT, PRAISE HIM, IF YOU HATE IT, SLANDER HIM. DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER.
Not that suggestions even matter anymore, lowkey surprised he wasn’t accepted unless he didn’t apply back when the mass accepting happened, and besides vetex doesn’t read any of this but anyways

Reroll Items for Deckhand Titles
Basically its deckhand title/title color reroll items which you would sometimes find in chests there would be 2 items Miracle Dye which randomly rerolls your selected deckhand’s title color and the other would be some kind of scroll or smthn which would let you reroll the title, now rarely in the dark sea you could also find an exotic item Letter of Hermes which is a letter with two little wings on it this item would let you specifically set both the title and the title color for a selected deckhand.

Less RNG for Deckhands Change
I also think a way to specifically set what your deckhand will wear every time they appear and maybe reroll their builds? Since deckhands appear to take a more intimate roll in the full release update, serving as your companions in battle it is only right that we should be able to customize them more. Otherwise we would not only have to farm for a good name, a good title, a good title color, and a good appearance, but also a good build and a consistently good outfit. Currently good looking deckhands are already locked behind a massive RNG barrier which can be discouraging to new players to say the least.

he might be the suggestor but pretty please format the suggestion I cannot read it nor can I understand it (well, for some parts)

it’s convoluted, this looks like it should belong in drafts

rerolling the color is kinda odd considering it’s not even random. it’s based on the title.

but anyway, i don’t think there’s something explicitly wrong with this suggestion (beside that a randomly findable item to reroll is sort of odd). however, i don’t think it’s necessary either. finding cool deckhands is part of the fun imo. besides, not being able to explicitly choose what build or combat tools (magic, weapon, fighting style) your deckhand uses is on purpose. we don’t want metamancing.

What abt deckhand hometowns where you have to pick them up after they “die”

the build part might be better as just changing what weapon types/fighting styles/Magic types they use instead of their actual build but idk deckhands just feel very RNG based which can result in people who put a lot of effort into getting good looking deckhands be stuck with deckhands who suck at combat.

If I do that, I risk getting some stuff wrong, and suddenly, if the reception is awful, it’s my fault. I am not rewriting a thing, if they think this is good, then I’m posting it as is, so they can’t complain later.

please obliterate this mindset.
for starters, deckhands already cannot be used in PvP.
most balance concerns are made with PvP in mind, and that is understandable, but in this case, the problem has already been solved.

secondly, a large amount of NPC builds are complete and utter garbage and they only win fights by being at an immense stat advantage.
(deckhands, being limited to the player’s level, do not have this stat advantage)

thirdly, we rely on them for ship abilities, if we can’t boost their abilities they’re going to die and that would suck extremely badly.

fourthly, deckhands are completely random in all regards.
I will have to either choose having cool deckands or good deckhands, finding one that’s both will border on impossible.

I don’t want to super invest in my deckhands and turn them into immortal NPC gods.
I just want them to use builds that synergize with me and can reliably get out of fights in less than two pieces.

Solution: Refuse to post suggestions that are poorly formatted.

this idea is heat, took me months to find drippy deckhands for my crew and I believe they should be as customizable as possible for that reason

it’s not fun because 99% of deckhands generate looking terrible, like “Wolf, the Fox” giving ram defense and wearing rags and a bandana

the only things you should care about are the hairstyle/skin color, name and title/stat (both are related). it’s not that hard to find something that pleases you, it’s essentially just two parameters + hair if you care that much.
the clothes can be changed and aren’t consistent anyway. they change all the time automatically (which i dislike but not really the point). literally all deckhands will look like bums when recruited unless theyre high level like at sameria.

i’m not saying it’s ideal at all but it clearly seems like you are basing deckhands on how they look like at level 20ish, when they have no defining characteristics.

summary: gambling!!!:money_mouth_face::money_bag:

well that was the case until this new system was announced.
with these new systems, the much much more important factor for deckhands is what their build is and how they fight.

Lets say you’re me, for a second, and use poison/fire magic.
Would you want your deckhands to be wind mages? No, of course not, if one of them were you’d have basically no choice but to fire them on the spot.
You would want them to use: Fire, plasma, or any magic that inflicts bleed so you can activate your synergies at long range.
You would not want them to have fighting styles since they would rush into extremely high level encounters and die.
If you have a warrior deckhand, a scald tooth knife and an Atlantean greatsword would be top tier weapon picks.
For the dark sea specifically, a deckhand that uses ice or lightning would also be a top tier pick because of the endless rain (though I’m unsure of atlanteans are perpetually soaked)

i agree but they were arguing about deckhands looking terrible. at the very least i think it might be nice to vaguely know what your deckhand uses when recruiting. im not sure if adding an item to reroll is necessary though. you shouldn’t need to metamance deckhands but at least knowing if one of them is counterproductive would be useful.

Its less that I want to metamance my deckhands and more that I want my crew to be completely mine.
I don’t want random chance to dictate it.
I want every part of my ship, including the people on it, to all be customized to the fullest extent to fit the roles (and aesthetics) I want.

Honestly, if deckhands have a set magic, it’d be pretty cool to build around that

what defines “pleasing” is different for everyone, i’ll admit they do look crappier at level 20 than they do later on, but it’s still super hard to find one that gives a good stat AND has a good name AND title

on top of that you can find deckhands that are clearly female who have names like “Christopher” or “Kirk,” and conversely deckhands that are male and have names like “May” or “Ashley,” which rubs me the wrong way
