The Premise

Dark Sea Fishing has 3 things separating it from normal fishing: Exotic Enchants, Atlantean Items, and Massive Fish (1st+ only). That’s pretty weird for a sea that’s half pure magic half water. Here’s a few ideas for making Dark Sea Fishing a little crazier.

Atlantean Fishing Rods

Fishing Rods can now spawn and be applied with Atlantean, granting a +10% bonus to all stats but granting + 1 Insanity when held. Atlantean Rods would also have a 50% boost to catching the special Dark Sea modifiers (following).

New Modifiers

Do not show up in fishing journal (except maybe Dwarf)

Can appear throughout the Dark Sea; higher ranges have higher chances

Imbued

Purple, glistening hue
When cooked/rotted:
Chance to grant random Tier 2 reagent
Increases hunger from meal and length of status effects by 33.4% but grants Insanity I status (stacks with Shrooms, but not with itself)
Giant and Massive Imbued fish would grant Insanity II

Necrotic

Green, gristly coloring
When cooked/rotted:
Chance to grant random Tier 2 reagent
Increased tier of status effects by 1, but grants Hunger II (increases Hunger drain by 50% per stack) status after the +1 tier
Giant and Massive Necrotic fish would grant Hunger III

Dwarf

Extra small
⅓ sell value and hunger value
When cooked/rotted:
Chance to obtain Dark Fish Skull (exotic catalyst; same as Golden Pearls)
Higher rarity fish = higher chance

New Reagents

Reagents that are primarily obtained via fishing in the Dark Sea (all ranges, lowest chance in 0th). Ignore the balancing, that’s just placeholder numbers.

Cursed Fishbone (Rare) - Tier I
Grants Crazy Luck for the duration of the effect - gives equivalent Insanity and Luck
Deep-cursed Fishbone (Legendary) - Tier II (Yes, T5 would give Insanity V)

Gaian Remains (Exotic) - Tier I
Grants Endurance for the duration of the effect - gives +5% Max HP plus +3% per level
Gaian Essence (Legendary) - Tier II (Similar rarity to Warding Tier II)

Energy Stone (Rare) - Tier I
Grants Fervor for the duration of the effect - gives +5% Max Stamina per level
Condensed Energy Stone (Exotic) - Tier II

The reagents are just examples, I’ve got no clue about balancing (ngl they’d probably be useless due to the buff cap)

ngl we should give this drawback instead… insanity ain’t good enough fr…

1 fish catch = 3% health loss
It’d be funny trust

Make it take 1% hp for every click when reeling in fish :flushed:

I second this. After all, blood is fuel.

I understand that this is a serious game with no funny business, but I’d love to use cursed fish as some kind of weapon

Maybe there’s some fish that are so infused with magic that they become a magic bomb with a random effect. Would cooking them, then, increase their potency or make you blow up the moment you cooked them?

Darn now we need a g
Fish-based fishing rod for the dark sea

1% Current hp consumption per click would be pretty funny
It’d make catching stronger fish much more rewarding

We’ve all seen it in Minecraft, its pretty effective in some versions of bedwars so why not

can we PLEASE keep potion stat effects off of food :sob:

errr, just the material for one?

I initially wanted to put something like “swordfish”, a la terraria, but I figured that’d be too crazy even for a joke reply

Now that I think about it, terraria also has a bomb fish

ah, yes, The Angler

I think it’d be super funny if you had a chance at fishing up a random enemy Atlantean that jumps you. Might be a good way to try and farm them without looking for multiple islands, as well as bring a bit more danger to it (Scales to what range you’re in of course)

Make it also scale with strength since atlanteans are (were) people

Y’know, I’m surprised I didn’t notice this sooner… I ate those words harder than the Atlanteans ate that swordfish

imo all fishing needs variety. I know it has been said several times, fishing is meant to be more relaxed and mindless, but why not just like, have a not mindless fishing rod/enchant? like make me play the AA clashing game when the bobber is in the water and make me time my clicks when reeling in the fish instead of spamming, idk.
I’m getting a bit off topic there, but yeah good ideas, i’ve always found fishing up a regular cod weird when there is magical waves and magical lightning everywhere.

I thought of another fish modifier: Warped
The model is physically twisted or distorted in some other fashion, it would probably increase status effect tiers or something
I think it fits the vibe of the dark sea to find weird beasts like that

Give us Goblin Sharks!!!

I always thought the dark seas could use more ingredients
