i dont think there is solar flare magic, only flare which can just might exist in the arcane cannon since i remeber seeing something on the trello a while back about your deckhands or quartermaster being able to shoot flare to help you find your boat in the ds

As for how people know about it, I just make the same assumption for any of the magics that are more “recent physics”-based like Flare and even Gravity (who was the Isaac Newton in the Arcane universe?): the gods gave humanity the initial ideas for them.

Vetex expanded on using spirit energy to change the body in the QNA and he said that in order to do so without messing yourself up too badly, you have to have knowledge of how the body works (he gave DNA as an example. Considering the gods could not only alter their appearances, but change into entirely different animals, I’d say they had to have some understanding of that stuff. So I’m assuming that the gods have a pretty good understanding of inner workings of the universe, whether it be innate or researched knowledge.

Maybe Helios or Apollo were like “yo did y’all know stars like our Sun spit out crazy flares of plasma/fire” and some dude who heard that found a Hecate shard and made something based off that
