So, uh… you can bring Castaways into the Dark Sea. Meet our Patient Zero, Harvey Jiminez, the bravest Castaway I’ve ever seen. Ever. And I mean ever.
During our journey, he called me a hero, said I saved his life, and didn’t mention the whispers or the waves or the lightning or the randomly generated, magical mutants and islands.
But uh… there’s now faker Castaways who THINK they’re as brave as Jiminez was. WELL THEY’RE NOT.
I THINK THIS NEEDS CHANGED. NO. MORE. FAKERS.
So, here’s my proposition.
In the Dark Sea, Castaways would have a very small chance to speak instead of crew members. Their dialogue would include stuff like…
“What is this place…?”
“Why are we here…?”
“With all due respect, I don’t think we’re in the right place.”
“How often do you come here?”
“I just wanted to go home…”
“Are we in ____ Sea anymore?”
“What was that lightning?!”
“Did you see that too?”
etc. etc.
Basically, them being both in awe and terror, and basically regretting coming on this ride, while not saying it outright because of their fear of you killing them because you’re obviously a psychotic freak if you come here that often.
In the Dark Sea, their randomly generated face would instead turn to this, or something similar:
They’re uncertain of their surroundings, and quite frankly, are scared of them.
What’s more, is if you make it to the Far Reaches with them still on your ship for whatever reason, their face would turn more like… this.
More panic, more hysteria. Additionally, if it’s not too hard to add, their dialogue should change as well.
Something more like…
“How psychotic ARE YOU?”
“Sweet Olympus, please save me.”
“Ohoho, why did I tag along???”
“I thought you were SAVING me!”
“What are we doing here?!”
Even more pressured dialogue. More panicked. They’re terrified.
And, oh, why not suggest one more thing.
I think the crew member’s dialogue should change in the Far Reaches too, to sound more panicked and anxious as well.
“Cap’n, why are we here?”
“I don’t mean to question orders, but perhaps we should turn.”
“I pray to the gods we turn around soon.”
“This doesn’t look safe.”
They’re no longer praying for safety because they know it won’t come. They’re no longer EVER optimistic. The only thing remotely close to a god here, as of now, is you, the captain.
And they’re now questioning your every move.
In short;
Castaways should be scared when you bring them into the Dark Sea, and become aggressive in their dialogue when entering the Far Reaches.
And the Crew should begin to question orders, and lose all forms of optimism, when in the Far Reaches.
As a bonus; make them randomly abandon ship. Just at random. It’d be funny.
Additionally, Castaway’s “E to talk” dialogue should be confused, rather than praising you while you go through the Dark Sea.
So yeah, that’s it. I dunno whether to label this as “change” or “feature,” but since more is changing then actually being added… change it is.
Cya!
