Discussion about the Armor stat: RESISTANCE

Resistance is one of the most underrated stats and I believe perhaps one of the least used.

For those who don’t know, resistance is the stat that makes you take less damage while standing still, endlag, charging an attack, etc.

Currently, it’s possible to have 87% resistance with a maxed resistance build; even if someone deals 1000 damage, you’ll only take 130 damage.

I love this stat because with a high healing and resistance build, you can be a mage and spam surge and ray and become invincible. From my tests, there’s still no perfect build for this; it will depend on the player or NPC, but for NPCs, it’s almost always guaranteed to win with this build.
It’s a relatively expensive build to acquire, considering that Abyss items aren’t sold very often, especially the Fair Resistance necklace. Balancing resistance and regeneration is quite complex based on my tests, and I’m still testing more.

Building a character with low resistances isn’t really very useful, so this exemplifies why it’s so rarely used.

  • Anyway, the main point of the topic is: will resistance be nerfed or altered? Will it become a meta stat in the future? Why wouldn’t someone have it? In the future, if it reaches a thousand, we’ll effectively take no damage. When easier and better resistance items become available, I believe many people will start using it; it wouldn’t make sense not to.

I hope the development team is doing well. :lightning_magic_var1:

What’s your opinion? :index_pointing_at_the_viewer:

Resistance seems to be a fun stat, considering that Vetex LOOOVES pushing it onto a lot of item sets (along with Armor Piercing.)

Unfortunately, as long as durability and power exist in their current forms, all other stat points are much less favored.

make resistance work with the free time from dexterity and stacking it past 100% allows you to heal damage while charging attacks

as soon as this armour pierce meta collapses I will run resistance

Great point. I think piercing should be very uncommon; it almost completely negates resistance, it’s like adding two status effects when only one exists.

all shall be made equal under balance team’s hammer

It…
won’t.
I’m sorry.

I’ve heard people around the balance team discord say that this was because vetex thought it’s still a pretty mid stat, and that this would make it too bad
if that’s actually true or not, I don’t know
but maybe, maybe it will still get nerfed

i used to run a max resistance build (lost diplo, resistance amulet, and iron leg armor) so i can tell you that its not worth it, and has little potential.

(pvp)
to make use of it you spend all your time charging attacks, and basically anyone with skill can punish it with grabs, dot or other (also run out of energy quicker since you have to be using an attack all the time for resist to work, and are weaker when using quick/light attacks and dodging around). its a crutch build that only works to a certain skill level. you also get little in the way of other stats like power and defence, because resistance is best at highest values (no one runs 100-200 res like they do dext, size etc).
(pve)
crutch as well. its very safe and viable, but you lose a lot on power to maintain safety. less power, and you cant spam attacks cause of energy (to maintain res), so you get way less dps then power/def builds or glass cannon builds. Although it’s WAY better if ao is too laggy for you to reliably block or dodge

i also dont see how the stat will be altered to become useful in small amounts like others while retaining its identity, so it will just end up dragging down armor pieces or be replaced with another stat.
in future level increases, we will be able to get to 100% and have more points to put into other stats, but that is years of content away to only become a middling build at best. pretty sure items wont be allowed to get more relative ep than lost/sunken sets at max level which includes lost diplomat (the best resistance armor set, even if it cant have abyssal). sure you can eventually replace scrolls and modifiers as levels increase cause you only need 100%, but thats easily 2030 levels of content

what stat build did you use?

I liked your arguments.

Regarding being bad at PvP, I think it’s quite relative. In my attempts as a mage, the only times I lost to the current meta damage was due to carelessness or lack of energy, but in general with Surge, Ray, and Construct, I just need to stay high enough to avoid being caught and hit frequently. Dots and grabs can really be a problem; Dots not so much, but they are still a hindrance.

Really, it’s a useless stat in small amounts! To be minimally acceptable, you need at least 50% resistance, which doesn’t compensate much and leaves little room for any other stat.

Lost Diplomat really helps to deal more damage; with it, I can get 90 damage and 650 resistance, enough to punish anyone near me while still taking less damage, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s still low.

I prefer using Allon’s set because it grants minimal regeneration, and with Surge and Ray, it’s impossible to lose to an NPC if you have good proficiency and performance with the build. I killed Caesar relatively easily; I didn’t even need to move away from him in the arena when he was using the Colossal Aether Sword.

Negative points, as you mentioned, are the currently limited availability of this set, and also the fact that there will be a lot of armor with piercings in the future, so it won’t make much sense to use resistance when it will be completely negated by any other armor.

For PvP in general, I’d say it’s a matter of performance. I managed to deal with the current meta damage with little care; I still needed to manage my energy, but aside from that, I had no worries.

I feel that PvP currently is a matter of performance (assuming you’re an experienced player and not a child using meta damage to compensate for incompetence in PvP). Almost any current build can beat another current build; it’s very much a matter of performance, who will take less damage and dodge more.

I’m still searching for an ideal point.

But my current builds are:

Max - 87% resistance
Damage-focused - Lost Diplomat 65% and 90 power
Healing-focused - 65% and around 140-80 healing, which on Ray and Surge gives me 10 health per tick. Besides, the Allon set also provides a little damage, so personally I think the Allon set is more worthwhile for me than the Lost Diplomat.

I won’t deny it, I love the fact that it’s a relatively decent status (in large quantities) but so little known and valued.

Overall, I really liked your comment and agree with many of the points.

I’ve never really used resistence before, would it be good if you have knockback jewels to keep people too far away to grab, or would people be able to dash in and grab before knockback means anything?

unrelated, how come you use small text? to conserve space?
