So all magic are currently exactly the same just with different effects (Ball, Explosion, Jump)
So I was thinking of different magic effects for all magic classes.
Example: Lighting Blast Attack would be a small Lightning Strike instead of a ball
or Ice Blast attack could be a Sharp Ice Shard instead of a ball.
I hope you get what I mean.
So does anyone know if the magic in the game will stay the same and everyone is just going to have Blast Attack, Explosion Attack and Jump or will be changed later so that every class is special?
Cuz I think the magic is boring if everyone has the same thing
All magics will most likely have the same abilities. Magics with different abilities are interesting, but there aren’t a lot of abilities to add for each magic.
The “mastery” or “maker” tier is planned to give us more shapes and variety with our magic, such as making traps, swords, different shaped projectiles, etc
I don’t think they’ll be changed much later. It was all probably so similar so there wasn’t a foreign idea of one magic being better than the other.
From a development standpoint, this is the best way. In arcane adventures, every magic was very different from each other. This is super nice but it makes adding new abilities very difficult. However with the newer modular system, it’s much easier to make new magics since you’re not making each ability from the ground up. But you’ll have your fair share of uniqueness with the lost spells and primordial magics as you can’t make spells for those.
TL:DR
The new system makes it easier to add abilities to each magic while making the later and rarer magics more tailored.
On top of that, it led some magics to be completely unbalanced. For example, Water was one of the weakest magics. Yeah, it got stronger underwater. Cool. What else did it do? It wasn’t that fast, and the damage wasn’t great.
Now compare that to Lightning; massive AoE on your Q, it was an instant beam, it had damage over time, and it had the highest base damage. At the cost of what? It used slightly more magic to cast?
Making every magic function similarly but have different effects is the best way to go both from a design standpoint and a balancing standpoint.
No, probably not. Vetex created the magic system like a year ago. It’s only been more recently (in the past 3-4 months) that he’s added new magics. The reason why he probably wouldn’t change it is because that would make magic non-modular. In programming, it’s usually preferable to have things be modular rather than non-modular. So, even though you could say that “All magics are the same”, they’re really not. There’s plenty of variability through the parameters, names, animations, builds, and stats/effects of each magic.
A lot of the magic variation in this game will come from how the player chooses to construct their abilities, not from the magic itself. Also a side note, lightning magic will have a lightning strike once players are able to learn the beam ability, so it wouldn’t make much sense to make it a blast attack.
Yeah the same for the most part. The explosions look different and so do the blasts. I mean, what other solely ranged magic attacks are you implying should be added?
I guess a beam attack will be a “Beam” with a different color, but again. Everyone is going to get the same beam. I dont know if it will be customizable but if not then it will look boring for me. If you saw the beams of the captains than you should see that they only have a different color
I dont care about new magic all I am saying is that I was asking if they someday change the look of the spells so not everyone has a ball or a just 3 types of explosions.
