Have you ever loaded up character creation with a clear idea in mind to realize the magic didn’t have a variant that you wanted? Or perhaps you’d reached the pinnacle of your abilities and wanted something that would further prove your own magic’s uniqueness or power? I propose the solution to these: the ability to apply a Dark Sea Quartz to magic types. In the current build, these items can be placed on a weapon to change its trail and ability color. This feature is purely cosmetic, and what I’m about to suggest would be the same in that regard. Upon using the quartz, it would give you the option as to whether you use it on a weapon or your magic type. This presents two possible avenues to the player. One: changing their variant to a pre-existing one. In this instance, it would allow a player to change their magic’s variant to one they’ve decided would look better with their current build, without needing a whole Prometheus Acrimony (such as from Steel to Gold Metal Magic). Or two: changing their magic variant to a unique variety. Variants that are unavailable from character creation and can only be acquired from this quartz. This would further allow a player to showcase their exploration of the dark sea and enable more in-depth character customization (such as blue fire or red lightning). This would also change the color of the Flaunting animation if it’s used on the primary magic. While character customization is certainly not lacking in Arcane Odyssey, there’s no such thing as too much of it. Not to mention that people make mistakes. A misclick in their magic variant selection, but not one they want to fully restart over, or a sudden change of heart after finding the perfect piece of Vanity gear. This addition would not only allow for a much cheaper solution to changing one’s magic variant but also further allow players to show off what makes a character theirs.
Me when cool ideas are ruined by shitty and archaic lost magic concepts that aren’t even that creative or interesting (hotter fire and lightning that has slightly better AoE)
while its not a bad idea, its never getting added for reasons dubious and nile have already stated
there arent many identifying features for some lost/ancient magics apart from just their color (scorch is literally just green fire), so this would make them visually identical which vetex wouldnt want
theres also the reason for why this would even work in the first place? obviously the game isnt 100% accurate to lore but this is purely customization rather than for gameplay convenience.
and then far into the future when we do actually get these lost/ancient magics, theres would be the issue of identification, like what if you had scorch and just colored it to be orange/red, someone thinks its fire or flare magic so they play differently and then suddenly they’re hit with a scorch attack that was practically unrecognizable.
oh, screw off with that.
if all ancient lightning and inferno amount to are ‘current lightning magic but red’ and ‘current fire magic but blue’ then we’re already heading towards an enormous dissapointment.
If the lost/ancients aren’t going to be visually unique enough to separate them from a mere recolor of a base magic then what is even the point.
you know just aswell as I that it is fully within the developers’ power to do better than that.
If they don’t have a visual identity yet, like with the ones you mentioned, then it is far from too late to give them one.
they’ll probably not be 1:1 the same visuals as the magics but that doesnt change the fact that inferno just boils down to being blue fire and ancient lightning is just red lightning at the end of the day
there isnt much you can do to something like fire/lightning to set it apart from other fire and lightning other than just coloring it different and giving it special effects
at most they could do something like inferno giving some kind of screen glare to show how hot the fire is burning, as for ancient lightning i really got no clue other than maybe a cloudy effect with it but its not like a storm magic its just lightning
yeah i agree and all but even with black smoke, special particle effect, its still going to be the blue flame magic, and will look very similar to fire magic with the blue quartz (assuming they can get the right combination down for its tint)
this isnt about the suggestion being good or bad, but we all know already this isnt happening, been stated multiple times we wont get new color variants for base magic.
