Only if you don’t prepare for incoming waves by finding a place to fish that’s less prone to being troubled by waves such as near a cliff where there’s a corner, or inside your brig.
Best way to fish is to find a donut-shaped island, and fish in its center. Also, waves only spawn where you point your camera to, so turn to face your character, instead of looking at the rod’s bobber
Last time I did that one of two things happened
Either
1, I got clipped out of my brig and dragged along the wave
2, I clipped INSIDE my brig with no way out
crazy advice. I will try it
Also, park your ship away from where you’re looking, you don’t need it to be chipped time to time
deadass helpful but my lag legit just wont let me sail normally in the DS, my brig just slows down till it’s slower than a rowboat

Yeah, that commonly happens to me too, very annoying. Stay far away from islands, them generating is what causes the lag. Only get close if necessary. Pop Sensing on and off to detect islands, because there always will be someone to sense, even ghost npcs will do
Also, the waves can still spawn inside the textures and grab you this way, but it is overall better than staring forward
