Fleet System Feedback

came back a while ago after getting myself into better mental shape

i forgot what happened exactly, unholy levels of ragebait?

i honestly love the system but there are a few things that could use a bit of work

  • certain tasks are definitely way more cost effective to run, and at times it can feel like you need to be actively making money to even sustain the fleet
  • fleet captains will sometimes just not have a location (especially when you need them most lmao), so whenever they spawn it feels like you need to rush towards them before they move again
  • i get that research is supposed to be the most endgame aspect of the system, but if i want to focus on it, it’s honestly not too fun sitting around for ten hours while you wait for the bar to fill up… Maybe a task could be dedicated to progressing it faster?
  • trading in particular gives a crazy amount of galleons; i think i earned somewhere around 400k passively from it (in a few hours) and thats probably not too great a thing, could definitely be fixed with the reduction of both profits and repair costs though

overall though, awesome system, lets me grind for things that i dont really feel like grinding, though i do kind of wish it was a bit more in-depth

Basically had one of my other fleet captains show up and shove the fleet captain i actually wanted to speak too off the island, forcing me to wait for when they would next spawn/relocate

let me hire deckhands in towns to be fleet commanders, i dont want to sacrifice deckhands that take weeks to build up to max. ESPECIALLY NAVIGATORS.

Fleet building if deckhands were put into a ‘reserve’ instead of being banished to the void when you dismiss a command ship

If we ignore the horrible deckhand management then fleets itself imo is mostly flawless, I don’t care what it does to the market so I don’t wanna take those kinds of stuff in my opinions.

So far it’s a little too time consuming for most but it’s designed so you can run it as you play the story so not a huge deal.

Items given are very useful, it’s definitely worth doing.

I think what sucks is the deckhands constantly moving around and a few of them just not existing at certain times which is an unnecessary effectivity nerf when we already need to travel around to make changes.

That and deckhand management is the only real complains I have, Deckhands should be inventoryable like crew and quatermasters.

I have some criticisms and suggestions for the Fleet system after using it for awhile. (I have a large Fleet with over 1,000 active followers and 32 total Brigs currently, though those numbers will continue rising.)

  1. The micromanaging combined with having to constantly sail around the seas to find your Fleet Captains makes the Fleet system feel more like a burdensome chore than a satisfying feature. I know the Raven exists in the research but it makes no sense at all to have an essential quality of life function as part of an endgame reward for a system that has the potential to waste all of your time and take your attention away from the actual game itself, basically restricting you to focus on the fleet only once you’ve invested into it. Sure you can pause fleet operations, but then it just becomes a waste of the resources and Drachma you invested by leaving the Fleet to collect dust. Personally, if you want this system to be easier to use especially for newer players while also not making it a 100% focus that takes your attention away from the rest of the content, let the Raven be available sooner or immediately.

  2. Someone else already pointed it out, but there’s no reason for supplies and food to exist separately. Strength has a clear reason to exist as to prevent you from just keeping your fleet on constantly without your attention, but food and supplies share the same purpose while being two entirely different resources. Merging the two together into just Supplies makes a lot more sense cause it still fulfills the same purpose while not adding anything unnecessary.

  3. Another piece of feedback that was already pointed out but would absolutely work, make pausing the fleet regain strength while not using up food/supplies. They’re not doing anything so they clearly should be getting strength back with this.

  4. For the love of god, make a tutorial on the Fleet system and show how much Strength/Food/Supplies the tasks use up or replenish. Players are going into it blind with no idea how it fully functions, and newer players need a way to know what they’re getting into. This is my biggest criticism as I went into it blind myself. You only get a brief quest that has Kenton say ‘Sink a sailboat to start a fleet.’ and that’s it. No further explanation. You’re on your own from there.

Personally I didn’t require the help of a tutorial to get into the system, I feel like it’s quite easy to get into (Ignoring time taken)

I’m not sure if the log book explains essential information about fleets but if it doesn’t then it should and if it does then people should use it.

Other then that literally every PVE mechanic so far just throws us into it and expects us to learn it which really hasn’t been an issue to me so far as they are quite easy to understand unless needlessly made complicated like the supplies and food problem you brought up which I think is valid criticism.

I think fleets is more complex looking then what it is but I’m sure if people could invest huge amounts of time at one go then they wouldn’t have any issues with it.

There is a section of the logbook about fleets but it doesn’t really explain information essential to knowing how to use it. It only explains what it does for the player and that you can repair ships when you have enough followers along with saying you gain more as you grow.

Yeah that should be fixed and improved then, I don’t think fleets need to be this complex non-understandable system. So I think starting with the logbook entry would be a good start to making it easy to understand.

Help me… pls. My fleet is bugged and I get 0 drachma from patrol and trading, so I am kinda locked from using fleets as its repair costs are higher than loot I get from it. I almost maxed my fleet, but now I cannot even write a bug ticket since they are flooded 24/7.

Are you on Minimize Risk by any chance?

Yeah, I made a topic about this problem and alr found the solution. It seems like upon reaching certain amount of followers you have to change minimize risk to maximize profits in order to continue getting money.
