the city we see in fraud was built by daedalus and hell has compromised it in some way, i feel like at this point hell is “toying” with us. im pretty sure in ultrakill lore hell is alive which does explain the respawn mechanic (hell ressurects v1)
Who’s Daedalus? I haven’t seen that name anywhere in Ultrakill… Unless that’s the name that’s scratched out in that one room in 8-1?
daedalus is an architect in greek myth that had some form of association with minos, iirc he was the one who made the minotaur and then minos said “that shit is so ugly i am sending it to hell to wander endlessly in a maze” the one who is scratched out in the 8-1 room though is either god or another unnamed archangel.
alr nvm after a quick google search i was wrong, daedalus MADE the maze but not the minotaur. but its still heavily implied he has some sort of assosciation in ultrakill. built a maze, built a city in fraud. (speculated)

Also if you didn’t know, if you hit the skyboxes of 8-2 and 8-3, you can see the theatre in 8-4, implying that all of fraud is just the theater that is seen after beating geryon and nothing else, not even the city, was real. also the fact that 8-3 is the final “normal” level, given that 8-4 is the boss, 9-1 is the game’s crescendo, and 9-2 is the final level in the game, so that’s why there’s so many callbacks to previous layers
My very first thought when entering fraud was
“There is definitely going to be a fake level end”

coming back to say how much I love event horizon bro, it also has leitmotifs from apparently altars of apostasy / the world looks red, so that’s probably why I love it so much

I think I understand why you wouldn’t do 8-3
I know that this isn’t related to fraud all that much, but I have no where else to post it and I just want to share it.

Forgot to say, I finished fraud, it was peak, I did it after pulling an all nighter (like 9am on a Sunday morning) in a half conscious state as well which really added to the whole experience
