How do you all deal with ganking?

the easiest way to deal with ganking is just to get good lmao

run or love gel

hide
no seriously, hide
or just log
people like these are terrible people

post it on forum so that people witchhunt them

We need a ganker witchhunt request thread, but it’d have to require proof of toxicity.

run to the edge of the island, spawn your ship, run away again, run back to your ship, get on your ship as you press the sails down button

works for me most the time

Just live with it dude it’s just a game

I title this piece “Coping ganker”, Sep 22, 2025

In my opinion, games should be fun. And ganking kind of removes all fun from the game, so…

you’re really only giving the ganker what they want here- PVP

I’ll give you the main things I did to avoid them when I still played this game

  • stick to bronze sea servers, they have significantly more noobs filling up player slots that gankers would occupy (also they have better & easier treasure chart loot anyway)

  • try to find small servers, smaller server = less potential gankers, also people playing the game to gank will probably want a more populated server with more people to gank

  • be a positive renown (it lets you ignore fellow positive renowns since they can’t dmg you)

  • scan the player list for people with high player kills to hours ratios, if there aren’t any negative renowns like this it’s a perfect server and you’re pretty much risk free

  • keep love gel on hand (it lets you apply a status that completely shuts off pvp between you and the person you hit)

  • Don’t use agility, it gets turned off in combat now (which also means they can’t use it to chase)

sneaky odyssey tricks
  • You can break walls in towns exclusively on the client side by hitting it with a two-handed weapon, (like a greathammer) allowing you to silently pass into buildings where there is a 1% chance someone without a revealing pot who isn’t just destroying buildings for fun is ever going to notice you **(be aware of your name tag though, they can see it through the wall if you get too close to it)

    • You can enter buildings right next to shop vendors / stations (like jewelcrafting tables) to use them from extremely safe, nigh-impossible to notice positions
  • Dashing, T-jumping, and most skills will make a lot of noise people can use to pinpoint your location, if you just rely on sprinting and climbing you can move around completely silently (although this takes a while so I’d only recommend it if you expect someone there)

protecting dark sealed chests

do not return from the dark sea on the right side of the map, this is where the most players are so your boat is most likely to get spotted. Instead, either:

  • return from the left, which is a bit less populated

  • return from the top, where you can more safely sell at thorin’s refuge (if it isn’t claimed) or you can claim another isolated, well defended clan island with a shipwright to sell at (if it’s a clan island it should at least have enough defenses to hold until the chests are all sold)

  • return from the bottom, where you can cross the nimbus sea border to immediately put the chests in ship storage, which will make them leagues safer than just being exposed on your boat:

    • they stay below deck between servers, the only way they can get lost is either combat logging or your ship getting sunk.
    • if you aren’t combat tagged, and you get a notification your ship is being attacked by a player, you can immediately leave the game to save your ship & your sealed chests
    • they can’t be stolen so potential trolls can only delete them, not steal them
    • they aren’t a visible, obvious incentive to go after your boat

I’d still recommend selling them as soon as possible if you choose to store them below deck, since all it takes to lose them is one guy shredding your boat while you’re combat tagged or your internet flopping once mid-combat, but it should work for a while

Or, you can just take a break until full release drops and there’s a pvp toggle

I politely inform the ganker that such violent behavior is uncalled for, and then give them a bag of money to relocate me to some other location on Sameria.

Just run away, works every time, im a pro at running and they never catch me.

No ganker can take my whimsy and joy if i just run away for 10 minutes until they leave.

It’s very easy, I just don’t play AO until Full Release. I got other games I wanna try out. Besides, sometimes I delete a file to play from the beginning to the end to see what changed.

i win :person_shrugging:

extra tip: always park your ship facing the ocean, clear of any obstacles so its ready to go if you need to escape

waterbreathing potions / gems, max speed brig and 3584 hp

what kind of slow do you have to be to deal with a ganker… by ganking them?
