The depths to which those that seek glory and power sink is unfathomable, the ruin their failures leave in their wake is terrible, and the closer they get to fabled success, the greater the impact once it comes crashing down. We can place the blame for the existence of one foul abomination on such hubris.
A scholar of the world’s mysteries mused, what is the measure by which man will stand equal to the gods? He surmised it would be the ability to create man just as the gods did; to match their greatest achievement. This scholar sought out knowledge, power, and resources to accomplish this task, and after he had amassed much of all these things, set about his great work. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, the scholar’s reach exceeded his grasp, and the result of his pravum opus resulted not in a man, but a mockery.
Indeed, everything about this creature was a mockery of the human form, and the human function. Rather than standing upright, this creature hunched over, needing to crane its neck to look ahead as mankind takes for granted. Even then, its eyes were displaced to the sides of its head, a trait of being mere prey, always fearful of its betters. The human mouth was absent in both shape and thought, a sharp beak replacing it, and it could utter no words, merely the sounds of a scared beast. The hands that let man wield tools were missing, and the arms that let man reach were pulled back against the hunched over form. This poor creature, a failure of a man in every way imaginable, could not even take the same steps as its aspiration, walking upon a pair of thin, bony claws instead of human feet.
The scholar attempted to do away with this failure, but the only success he had this day was the great size of the monster, towering over its creator. The scholar was able to take solace in that his creation not only matched, but surpassed the creation of the gods in one way; by surpassing its own creator. Unfortunately for the scholar, it was in lethality.
Since the scholar met his end, there has been no confirmed sight of this foul beast, but some have claimed to see not only the scholar’s original folly, but multiple creatures of the same description in the same place, a flock of failure. Some speculate that the hand of the gods is at work here, a reminder of man’s place in the pecking order.
TL;DR
Guy tries to make man to one-up the gods, ends up creating a featherless biped, and now it’s everyone else’s problem. Hope it drops good loot! And if it doesn’t, maybe as a consolation prize it’d have one guaranteed drop: at least you got chicken.
What?
It’s a joke about the story where Plato gave the definition of a man as being a featherless biped, so Diogenes plucked the feathers off a chicken and said, “Behold, a man!”. It’s a giant featherless chicken.
