I thought vetex has a better system in mind when he removed the fishing knockback but after coming back in the game since I have some free time again, I found 5 macrofishers in three days and all just in Ravenna. Considering macroing is still bannable and the fact that baits are now gone, I’ve thought of a possible solution.
Macrofishing Checker
Uses the same exclamation mark as when you caught something but when something caught your bobber, a single click will instantly reel the line while the catch stays on the original position of the bobber instead of swimming away.
Spam clicking while the checker is still happening will cause the catch to slowly shrink, if it completely shrink then you wont successfully catch it and the next one will still be a macrofishing checker until you wait out for the duration of the checker to successfully pass it.
Normally the check only lasts 3 seconds but for every click and reel will reset the timer to 3 seconds so that if the player is macrofishing, it will have time for the fish to shrink.
Regarding to when the checker will occur, it will be completely randomized from every 10 to 30 catches. If you sucessfully pass the checker, you only need to wait 1 second for something to catch your bait so that you dont waste your time waiting for a catch again.
Pros
Forces people who macro to pay attention to their game while fishing. Essentially making them close to someone who legitimately fishes.
Would make it harder to set up their macro since it is pretty similar to a normal catch.
Cons
Slightly more time wasted while fishing.
Legitimate fishers are also forced to keep their game on screen.
the intent here is nice but entirely switching up how the fishing minigame works at complete random would just serve as a nuisance to legitimate players (which greatly outnumber macroers)
anticheat is great, until it effects normal players more than cheaters
you’re onto something with re-using the same exclamation and such but i just feel this would inconvenience everyone else way too much & would lead to confusion from newer/unaware players
A tutorial popup should show up at the first and second time the player encountered the checker where they have to wait 5 seconds for them to be able to close it, forcing them to read the whole thing. It’s only a minor inconvenience but I’ll change how the extension works so that if someone accidently kept spam clicking, they wont have to wait 8 seconds.
Sadly, inconvenience is the price for something vetex cant completely remove but unlike the knockback thing where macrofishers still have places to hide, this one makes everywhere not safe for macrofishers to afk.
No, just no. Vetex made it clear that he wanted fishing to be a no-brainer mechanic. Also this is a very niche case, dark sea fishing is already a chore, I don’t want to spend extra time reeling in a legendary fish and have to wait out the checker while a giant tsunami approaching me( this happened more than you think).
I mean ngl, while legitimate fishers are still in the majority, it’s already alarming that I found 5 macrofishers within 3 days and all just in Ravenna, just think about on places people rarely go to
While quantity is better to look at, automated fishing outmatches those who legitimately fishes in efficiency since they can do it for idk, 8+ hours and all within the confines of their hiding spot
It’s not a problem rn since they havent impacted anything yet but given some time, stuff like sunkens, golden and legendary scales will have their values dropped because of the inflated supply. You would think it’s good that the scales would drop in value but dont forget drop rates are affected by it, which eventually causes everything to drop in value due to again, the inflation of supply
Trust me, it’s gonna be a domino effect if vetex havent stopped the rising emergence of macrofishers. Possible conclusion while keeping fishing as is would be making sunkens only obtainable through underwater chests and removing luck status entirely
Wait fr? Ik image checking is a thing but it would look the same in the picture with the water in the background. It would only make it look like the fish is farther when having it screen checked
But well if that’s the case then uhhh disregard this suggestion, close it too if that’s better
a better macro checker could be for the game to keep track of the inputs you give, like, I know that I personally move the camera around a bit while I’m fishing- so maybe if the game detects no inputs or inputs that are the exact same it can flag you as a macrofisher and just stop you from fishing for a while completely
That’s gonna be harder to code ngl since a lot of legitimate fishers have their game on a small window on the side of their screen while they watch videos on youtube or something similar, which pretty much makes it hard to tell the difference between legitimate and automated
The game might also be able to sense where you’re clicking on the screen, so if you tab out of the game and then come back to it when you get a bite you’d be clicking on a different area of the screen
you …uh… sure do think ahead of time.
This is just a game, rare items losing their value doesn’t mean the death of us all. If the whole community collectively agrees that sunken worth 69 galleons, it will be. The real value lies in their usage to YOU, not what is decided by a group of people.
If you’re hardcore about the game it’d be much better if you obtain those items by yourself ( Ik I did and it felt good getting my first surge scroll from a chest). As for casual players, they pretty much don’t care about it.
This seems pretty confusing and I think it might affect legit players too much. And as others have said vetex wants fishing to be no brainer (it should be no brainer, I don’t wanna actually do something for 3000 fishes, imagine that)
casual players don’t care about it, and yeah, I do agree that since the items in AO don’t have any real world value we shouldn’t really be too worried about the macros. They should still be caught and banned whenever possible, but since RWT is bannable it wouldn’t have the same problem as, say, MvM in TF2.
Exactly. They have no real world value (nothing to base their value on; they are necessities to some but just “rare items” to others) + their ingame value is not fixed (the number of rare items grows day by day, but the playerbase’s needs fluctuate, etc.). If we go by the low vs. high effort comparison (simplified version of macro vs. legitimate player), how would one judge item values in cases like, say, a guy who got lucky and fished 3 sunken in 3000 catches vs. a guy whose first sunken was also his first sunken pity? No one can’t.
I mean sure it’s just a game but you also waste time on it. You’ll grind for a rare item that you found out you could buy for 100 galleons or something which if you’re smart enough, you’ll consider buying them instead.
Then when you havent predicted the inevitable drop in value because vetex made it easier for macrofishers to thrive and grinded for a ton of shit only to find out it’s dropped to 100 galleons and wasted their time for nothing.
Yeah you could say the value is on the usage of the item but would you really want a ton of people to have op shit immediately with little to no effort? People already complained a ton with this game’s pvp and that includes casuals minding their own business because some random pvphead got bored. What makes it worse is that vetex is only giving the casuals temporary protection,
Future stuff would mean more powerful shit so of course im gonna be worried about that with how legendary scales would be easily hoarded. With endgame being a powerful build, people would start randomly killing people with op stuff and before you know it, casuals are pushed out of the game considering they cant enjoy the game with how people constantly want to flex they’re the mc of some anime.
Value would still be lowered because of supply and demand. No one would pay 30K+ galleons just because some guy valued it as that, since a ton of people would have 100+ of them. Since no one would buy it at your valued price, you’re forced to either stop selling it or lower your price.
But well, it’s just as you said, im thinking too far ahead. Being a doomer is shit and all but you cant deny the inevitable drop in value for everything unless vetex removes golden and legendary scales. People wont really give a shit on sunkens that much considering future items wont really be only obtained in fishing.
