for simple, i call that radiation like radgic. Well, you know that dark sea is polluted by magic, tsunamis and tornados are spreading radgic. Atlanteans are mutated humans, they are mutated by dark sea water and rains that polluted by radgic. Like radiation in our world, it is harmless in lower doses, even useful in some situations but at high doses it is dangerous same as radgic, it is harmless in low dose for example main character and npcs are lightly mutated, their appearance are same as usual and clear mind but they have magical powers, unlike atlanteans for atlanteans gonna tell all stages of radgic irradiation
Stage 1 (Main character and some npc)
no changes to appearance and mind, but have mutations inside
Stage 2 (Lost sailor)
appearance slightly changes, same as Stage 1
Stage 3 (Lesser mutated atlantean)
appearance have more changes, mind starts to wrap
Stage 4 (Mutated atlantean)
this is the final stage where you look like a human, same as third but more dose
Stage 5 (Monstrous atlantean)
now you’re abomination and your mind is not same as usual same as fourth but more dose
Stage 6 (Nightmarish atlantean)
even more effects than fifth
Stage 7 (Unholy beast atlantean)
now you receive heavy mutations for your body same as sixth but more dose
Stage 8 (Legendary beast atlantean)
The final stage of radgic irradiation, you are powerful, almost unkillable, but in exchange you get abomination looking body and wrapped mind, with that mind you are not recognising your friends and relatives your mind is only “KILL”
Also animals in dark sea affected by irradiation i think their irradiation is 2-3 because they have some changes and their behaviour is the same. Also why atlanteans in late stages are gigantic? That caused by radgic! Well, high dose of radgic is not as harmful as radiation, it gives you gigantic powers, but your mind will gets wrapped and you will look like a mutated fish, octopus, or smth else. I dont think that atlanteans going to kill us without radgic irradiation. Also the dangerous magic is explosion because it is can be big and spread a lot of radgic
I forgot that fact giant kraken, white eyes and omen are also mutated by radgic 3-4 stage, but omen can be higher stage same as fishes

It did imply that the dark sea was created because of a huge magic explosion that corroded almost 90% of the world
maybe it is explosion’s eplosion

The Dark Sea is implied to be the cause of Theos and Acheron fighting. When Acheron is losing his last ditch effort is to combine every Magic he stole into 1 nuclear blast.
Theos obviously stopped it but due to the sheer force of Acherons nuclear bomb.
It created the Dark Sea aka a Sea of Magic Radiation/Pollution.
Iirc Dark Sea wasn’t directly created by the Fracture but by Chaos drawn to the Earth by it.
