I’m not one who like rating things five stars, but you put a lot of effort, formatted it pretty good, and in my eyes, the idea is very reasonable.

This change would make the RNG grind less miserable, though making hectate more common seems a bit odd. I do feel like magic reset exp gain should be locked to dark sea activities.

Pretty cool idea not gonna lie

so what if we hypothetically chose to stat reset a mage and turn it into a warlock?

I agree that a slow-burn-bar would also work well for a magic reset; certainly way better than what we currently have and what is going be added. Instead of having unitless percents, XP could be used as the resource because everything already gives XP. (mainly recommending this because @Mr_hyperspace referred me to this suggestion)

I think it’s interesting to make the hecate essences way more common but only partially contribute to a magic reset. This would probably be better than the current all-or-nothing probabilities.

A minor “problem” with this suggestion is that it adds a global resource that only affects 1/4 of stat builds. Having worthless stats isn’t that harmful but I think this part could be improved.

Maybe, to make this “Hecate” bar more useful to everyone, instead of only being exchangeable for a magic reset, it could be exchanged into either a unique spirit weapon, artisan weapon, or to “lock” a fighting style (can learn it anytime for free and mastery is saved).

Small-ish suggestion critique/advice

I would suggest trying to approximate an average time for the bar to fill. The percents are not very useful because they’re probably not balanced (expected from every suggestion) and difficult to imagine in practice.

For example, you could say that the bar should take 10 hours of random PVE activites to fill up, or about two non-sweaty dark sea runs.

Because its true that for balance purposes magic is nerfed to the ground. Also there is something called inflation so making stuff in roblox now costs more robux

whatever, go my 550! pshot

Frankly this view is shortsighted and stupid.

If the game is properly balanced, then magic is and will be equal to the other builds.
Unless the balance team (and development) completely fail at this, no, this is not fair because magic isn’t ‘the strongest’.

There shouldn’t be an objectively strongest stat to begin with, sure a meta might exist within one, but to go all the way and say a quarter of the builds ingame are objectively better than the other options solely because they have magic is insanity.

This is downright idiotic.

Magic changing, and build changing as a whole, are things that should have existed on release.
This is a game that vetex wants us to play and replay for years to come, if we’re all tied down to the same build with no room to experiment whatsoever, that’s going to suck.

Vetex realized this and made an announcement.

When Promethean Acrimonies were announced, it was a collective sigh of relief for the entire community… until we learned that they arbitrarily didn’t reset magic because lore (acrimony its self already completely ignores the lore).

Of course, people were unhappy that interchange potions were unable to change what is one of if not the most important part of their build, magic.

Hecate Essence was also a collective sigh of relief for the entire community… until we learned that it was designed to be, in vetex’s own words, miserable.

No, people aren’t just going to be happy that the absolute bare minimum was done for an essential game mechanic. Of course not, who would???

Build making and character customization are two of the biggest draws of AO, right next to the magic itself (this is ARCANE Odyssey, who clicked on this game to not use magic first?).
Absolutely nobody was ever going to be happy that the vast majority of builds that are actually chosen by most players was characterized by its ‘permeance’ (inability to experiment).

While I understand that the lore of the game pretty much dictates that magic is atleast the hardest of the stat builds to alter, the way it is ingame right now is completely ridiculous.

This is reasonable. It just aims to improve one of the options a player can choose when they want to play a new magic, which is important for a game like AO because of diverse player mindsets.

If they prefer the progress of one character, then they can choose this more viable HE route and play how they want to do so. If they don’t care all that much, then they can just progress a new slot. Long-winded reasoning below:

Summary

Firstly, I will say Vetex is shooting himself in the foot by purposefully making a system “miserable” for the players, in his own words, and then having to deal with said players being miserable. I respect Vetex, but this is honestly a downright diabolical thought process and doesn’t help anyone or himself either, and it’s disappointing.

Secondly, while it will be easier to level up new slots in the future, so that you can play other magics, this is somewhat a band-aid solution. I think it is crucial that you can be able to experience most of the game without having to make extra slots. Some might not like having to repeat the same things they’ve done on their main slot already. And most probably just end up trading over gear/resources from their main to their alt slot anyways, which has to be some kind of irony. That is a whole topic I could make my own post for. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who don’t mind doing that, and that’s completely fine. More and/or better options helps everyone.

Thirdly, I see lore this, lore that somewhat. While I understand lore might be very important to Vetex and the lore community, it shouldn’t be the end all be all and allow one to disregard or haphazardly deal with the issue.
