My biggest problem with the story when I started out, Sea Curses

So Warren got his curse by travelling to space?

What? I don’t know which of the grandfire went up but it was only one

promethean fire shot up to space but its not canon anymore

Every time we have a lore discussion thread like this, I am reminded that AO’s worldbuilding is spread across a million different conflicting Discord and Trello posts.

Someone needs to just compile a big list of everything and sort it into canon and non-canon/retconned categories…if that’s even possible.

Vetex should be keeping less secrets.
Obviously don’t tell us everything about AO’s story, but why can’t we know what the new grand fires are?

Story relevance

He can’t just say things that could be kept secret in the story for a reason, remember how he used to keep wotans curse a secret?

He’s not inherently applying it to a character unless he says it is.

the council is not pleased with this

I warned you

I will admit though, there seemingly isn’t any actual reason as to why the curses are cubes in the first place

why aren’t they just like, bundles of pure magic energy? or things like artifacts that give you the power through some sort of mechanism? what were the gods thinking when they said “let’s make the curses just giant cubes lol” (absolutely based shape but the point still stands)

I’ve gotten used to it, aside from the poor visual look of the particle textures in motion, but it’s so random.

The curses got Cursebeard killed in the end. Doesn’t take a genius to guess that spreading a bunch of what are basically super weapons around the world would probably bite Cursebeard in the ass eventually.

maybe it’s one of those things that just kind of exists without reason but it’s not that huge of a deal

I have like 1 or 2 instances of that in my worldbuilding

It bit the entire world in the ass.
if it wasn’t for them, he’d still be the strongest magic user known to exist at the time.

What does Prometheus care, he’s gonna die anyways might as well make sure the guy who kills him dies too

I think he’d be pretty dumb.

Why? Cursebeard only died as an eventuality of the curses being made. Without the curses at best Cursebeard’s will is still carried out by his immortal buddies after he dies of old age, provided he doesn’t get one of the few experimental curses that were already made. Instead, because the curses were made, Cursebeard and all his friends died.

Okay, he may be the god of forethought, but he does not think things through like that. He gave people magic in the first place.

It’s not like he was stupid, he was winning the war of the gods before Cursebeard interfered. He gotten taken out by a wildcard right at the end of the war that he was about to win, it wasn’t super predictable. Especially when he was already preoccupied and probably wasn’t counting on gods serving under a human.
