The navigator profession will have many features to aid in one’s journey. This is not like the charting profession which focuses on treasure charts, and will focus on navigation and exploration as the name clearly shows.

Progression

This profession would be progressed by doing many tasks, each task will contribute based off it’s difficulty and length.

Method 1: Diving Spots

Completing diving spots will grant a sum of exp based off of a couple factors.
Factor 1: structure size, large structures give a large amount of exp, while the small diving spots give comparatively little(in exception to the obulus nest, as it is considered a large structure due to the obulus living there.
Factor 2: Depth, the deeper down a structure is located the more exp they give, abyssal structures can give almost twice the exp, while sea-floor leveled structures would give around 1.5 times more exp than structures of similar scale near the surface.

Method 2: Island Exploration Tasks

These are rather simple. With each exploration task you will also get a small amount of profession exp, while fully completing an island’s exploration will give a much larger sum of exp.

Method 3: Dark sea Exploration

When a player enters the dark sea, they are given small side-quests they can choose to complete., these quests can be found in a separate tab of the quests menu, and will not fill up their other quest slots. These quests are removed shortly after they leave the area that gave them the quest, and have a cooldown until you can get another one.
Main Quests
These quests are obtained when entering the dark sea, they have an hour cooldown and will take most of your expedition to complete and give a very large sum of exp. You will get 1 or 2 of these per expedition, no more. Quests normally given during a dark sea expedition include: Complete 2-5 Tasks, explore 3-10 islands, Slay 1 dragon in the dark sea and loot their nest.
Tasks
Tasks are small quests given when entering an island or large structure in the dark sea such as a forest, and have a short cooldown of around 3-5 minutes. These tasks can include: Explore(fully loot) 1 structure, Talk to 3-5 ghosts, gather 5-10 Reagents. These give a somewhat small amount of exp. Pages of Athena will also count as Tasks and give exp, but will not show up on the quest menu.

Tiers

The tiers of this profession mostly aid with exploration and navigation.

Tier 1: The player can toggle a paths mode in the map showing the last minute of their sailing history, similar to world of magic’s system. Can be useful to find castaways you may have missed as you can follow your path back.

Tier 2: Navigators on your ship give a 5% higher speed and whirlpool escape chance when used.

tier 3: The time paths mode records is now 3 minutes. The player also recieves a tier II camp marker, which has 3 tents, some wooden barriers, a small watchtower, and crafting stations. This tier II camp marker will act as a spawn for them and their party.

Tier 4: The player can now see their projected path for the next 500 meters in the map when toggles, shows as different color than the previous 3 minutes. Does not appear in the dark sea.
Tier 5: The player can see what species of animals live on the island they hover over in the map, displayed on the right side.(as long as they have discovered such animals, if they haven’t they will appear as a black box with a silhouette of the animal.

Tier 6 The player can now see their projected path for the next 1500 meters in the map instead of 500.

Tier 7: The player can now see the exact variants of each animal which spawns in the islands.

Tier 8: The player gains a ship part which when equipped, upgrades the ship’s mast with new crow’s nests mounted with telescopes. When mounted, these telescopes will increase the range in which the player can see while in the dark sea, and apply clearsight.

Tier 9: With the materials and research the player has obtained through their exploration, the player has crafted a dark sea compass which points toward the nearest sea cluster or dark sea archipelago.

Tier 10: With the player’s unmatched navigation skills which even conquer the dark sea, they now always know their rough direction from the war seas, and they can now map the rough location of each major dark sea structure. This includes the Draconic Seas(my name for the dragon area), dark sea archipelagos, and the epicenter. These will only appear if they are already spawned in, and if not they must be found by the player themselves. The player’s direction from the dark sea and the major features will appear when the “Dark sea Features” button is toggled on.

edit: should mention that the rough location of each structure is only the direct from the war seas it is found in, not including the range so structures with varying ranges are mostly unknown, and the epicenter will be more of a “somewhere north or northeast” kinda thing

another edit: forgot to mention you need to have been before for the level 10 talent to show the areas/structures

An immediate issue I perceive with this profession; It is not specific to one thing.
Professions in Arcane Odyssey aren’t generalized to a magnitude of tasks, they are all virtually one task;

Cooking: Cook food to level.
Brewing: Brew potions to level.
Jewelcrafting: Craft jewels to level.
Fishing: Catch fish to level.
Bounty Hunting: Hunt bounties to level.
Charting: Dig up Treasure to level.

If a possible new profession would be added, then it should follow this trend.
An example would be a blacksmith, e.g. smith to level, enchanting, e.g. enchant to level, and diving, e.g. diving to level.

it could also be a talent if needed, just quish together some of the upgraded versions of the tiers together and stuff

Agreed, a talent would fit better as they generalize over a set of categorized tasks, e.g. stealth is based on… stealth, Seafaring is naval combat.

but like the methods were potential ways of progression, also they wanna add in like a resource harvesting talent or sum which would have to be generalized

It can’t be a profession as per the non-specific functionality, but it couldn’t be a talent because of them requiring steps to unlock, e.g. quest.

The quest could possibly progress via the methods you stated, in some way?
Additionally, if it were to be a talent, you could grant greater rewards per level, as you can only have one talent at a time.

but it does give plenty of items and a huge advantage with the dark sea, so yeah i’d say it’d be a great talent for PVE

however, it does fit into the whole profession thing because every method i listed was involved in map exploration, bounty hunting has a couple methods as well, since u can go PVE or PVP, fighting sea-based enemies or land-based ones

Seems like cool idea compared to recent patchnotes

also we can remove the whole diving thing if needed, i could see that as another talent

but method 2 and 3 both kinda blend together as 1 main task, you explore areas by completing tasks for them to gain exp, similar to how the other professions handle stuff

method 3 would also be a good incentive to go the dark sea, as the tasks would probably also give the normal exp used for leveling and small dramcha/item rewards

having the profession also makes it much easier to utilize the claimable dark sea archipelago/draconic cluster islands that’ll be added in the future

All in all, instead of getting XP to raise the tier, you’d do exploration-type quests from a randomly spawning NPC or interactable, e.g;

Step 1 (NPC)

A seasoned NPC talking about his olden days of exploration, wanting to reminisce about his past, hence to why he asks you for help.

Step 2

After you’ve accepted, you’d be tasked to go to a specific or random set of islands to find a randomly generated treasure and/or piece of equipment.

Step 3

Once you’ve delivered the set of treasure/equipment, he tasks you with diving at set of diving points to basically do the same or something different

This would then continue on until the max level is reached, to then where future updates could implement more levels, the last step would likely be a Dark Sea expedition to get an item.

In lore, pretty much no one has ventured into the Dark Sea, not even Wotan, perhaps this explorer could’ve made a trip to the Dark Sea, forget some equipment, but eventually return?

maybe, itll be vetex who decides whether its talent or profession and what path to take when it comes to the time he (might) adds it

As I said before, it can not be a profession due to its non-specific functionality, AO’s developers may be inconsistent, but not to this degree.

just use method 3 then

Wouldn’t work either, each tier of the profession never grant positives to other systems, e.g. Charting grants positives to the charting levelling progress, even bounty hunting gives positives to the bounty hunting progress.

If this should be a profession, then the tiers should increase the method, whilst the profession itself granting some kind of reward, like charting granting rewards from treasures, bounty hunting gaining renown and Drachma, cooking giving food and you get the idea.

I disagree because these aren’t boosts that would be helpful as a talent.
Navigating is a singular task, where and what is irrelevant, as long as you are filling out a map and making discoveries, you are navigating.

Everything (except diving) makes sense as a source of XP for this as a profession, as they’re all the same objective.

Define navigating.
The other tasks are specific in the sense they only have one task to do, there isn’t variety with any of the professions, implementing variety with a new profession wouldn’t adhere to consistency.

Charting is ONLY searching for buried treasure.
Cooking is ONLY cooking food.
You get the idea.
