Random shower thought that turned into a whole-ass idea (That may or may not work with the lore).
Desc: A fighting style that is based on the indirect manipulation of magic energy. This would require an unholy amount of strength stat and magic build can’t use this (cuz redundancy).
How it would work:
There are 3 stages to this fighting style:
Stage 1: Uncharged. No buffs, no nothing. Essentially the basic fighting style.
Stage 2: When you flaunt, a bar will fill up. Similar to thermo fist, this bar will slowly go down. To fill it, flaunt. As long as the bar isn’t empty, your attack speed and attack power is buffed proportional to the amount in the bar.
Stage 3: By parrying an attack with magic (Magic-imbued attacks, magic attacks, etc.) while the fighting style is equipped and the bar is half filled, you manipulate the magic energy and absorb the attack, imbuing the magic into your arms and legs along with the buffs and status effects of said magic (albeit weakened). For example, if you parry a lightning blast, your attacks are now buffed with lightning. This will create a new bar that will empty over time (at a faster rate than the original bar). The original bar will be frozen while you are manipulating a magic. This new bar can only be refilled by parrying another attack of the same magic. You cannot absorb more than 2 magics. When the bar empties, you will revert to stage 2.
This was more of an idea I wanted people to see cuz it was taking up way too much space in my head. I guess it would look cool and give strength builds an edge over magic builds in pvp.
An adaptation-like fighting style sounds fun but you probably should have something for attacks from other fighting styles, weapons or anything spirit related.
Anyways, we’ve already had a fair share of talks about why moves and means of combat made mainly as a ‘fuck you’ to a select range of builds is a bad idea
its a cool concept but I feel like the parrying magic attack seems like such a specific condition that itll make this build weak against none magic builds
You probably should have clarified that, right now it reads like its only adapting to magic and not the traces of magic in every in-game ability (if that even is the case).
some people are considering it to be an absorption style which definitely fits how you described, and because of that i feel like the gear should give a high amount of armor piercing
it’d be hilarious to take someones magic and then also take away their rights to use substats (since piercing does that in full release)
this also makes me want to make an idea for a style thats similar to chi blocking in ATLA, where you target pressure points to disable attacks
