Reminders for AO (Part 1)

more work for testers

knockback instead of stun? Clever.

yea lets turn ao into parry into free punish :skull:

dw bro vetex will just make parrying super hard. so noobs get baited into parry kinging

I feel like dodging will be used WAYY more than parry

agreed, G is a lil more inconvenient than double wasd
(Doesnt matter to me tho cause I binded G to an extra mouse button :troll:)

G is 1 button

W, A, S, or D + Shift is 2 buttons

1 button is quicker to click than 2 buttons

Dodging can avoid all damage while paryying cannot, even with a perfect paryy. Plus I don’t think it’ll be WASD + shift I think it’ll be clicking WASD twice to dash in that direction, Idk tho

But it’s harder and less efficient in most scenarios because client side

It’s both, double clicking is actually worse since not only are you clicking twice, but you can’t do so simultaneously

both could be predicted, likely one more than the other

So? Blocking is also client-side based. Plus most performance issues are being fixed in AO, that was one of the biggest reasons for the revamp.

Bruh, it doesnt make the biggest difference in a battle, as long as you can click normally either will be fine. Not even light blasts should be faster than ur fingers

You clearly dodged the point and didn’t even know what I was referring to

How do you dodge what you can’t see? (Client-sided attacks) Hop on WoM and try dodging good players

Blocking it is simpler because you only have to factor amount of time, for dodging you need to accurately guess where the blast is

It does make a difference, I never said it made the “biggest difference.”

Pretty sure WoM doesn’t have dodging
Plus I don’t think most players have an aimbot that allows them to foresee exactly when and where you’ll dodge; just like how you “for dodging you need to accurately guess where the blast is”, the attacker needs to accurately guess where and when their opponent will move.

Imo both dodging and blocking have suitable places and times to use them, and people go with whichever fits their playstyle and the situation better

I feel like the knock back should only work against like 20% of the moves (like a rush) but most of them (anything that makes a projectile) just doesn’t make sense to have the attacker get knocked back

Magic jumps/T jumps/ Moving

It’s actually not hard to narrow down in most games

People instinctively have a higher likelihood of dodging left in literally every game I’ve seen although anecdotal and patterns are simple to pick up

No, there’s actually a client sided bug in the game that would basically make their blast inconsistent and the real location invisible at times. There’s been no words on it being fixed but we’ll see.

Then we agree

i mean, authors can be biased (I would know :sunglasses: )

I could say the same for blocking, unless you have perfect timing memorized for each magic, how can you block without seeing?

Skill has nothing to do with mobility or speed per dodging or blocking

True, but we aren’t even talking about WoM, in AO, performance will, if not, be completely optimized so that low-end computers can handle AO. In WoM yes, blocking is better. In AO however, I believe dodging will become meta, because, as I said before, it’s easier and has a chance to completely avoid damage. Unless shot redirecting becomes a thing, dodging will become more ideal for winning fights.
At the end of the day it’s just preference, if you’re better at blocking then block, you will do fine. But if you want to dodge, dodge, you will also do fine
It’s not the biggest difference

Yeah after practicing for hours every day. Plus WoM had 0 variety in its attacks, AO will have insane amounts of combinations for mobility and moves in general that you can punish, definitely won’t be a piece of cake and will require godly amounts of hard practice

That’s why I’m AO it’s being fixed, once fixed it’ll be a lot easier to time dodges

Also agree

Dude it’s very disingenuous to type before you even read the entire thing which you yourself address later

This is a brain dead statement that I shouldn’t even need to address

You’ve provided no evidence as to it being easier and both are situational. Both will be in use a lot, I just belive blocking slightly moreso

That’s referencing every single game I’ve played with rolls/dodges
I encourage you to test that theory on other games, people usually dodge left

If it’s fixed yes
