What I find funny is that you don’t actually need insanity nowadays to make a viable build lol

I think what should be done is putting drawback in place of insanity, and perhaps nerfing the stat bonus
Drawback, unlike insanity, does not aim to kill users with conditions like insanity and is generally seen as a bad stat to have, so I believe it’s fair to force atlantean users to take drawback damage

I completely agree on a personal level. Having to run Insanity at all times screws with the game not only visually, but also mechanically, since if you hate the Insanity effects like I do, you either have to somehow work out a viable build with Theurgist/Diatrys stuff, or become a Warding Potion addict. Do I really want to screw up most of my game time just to be on a more even playing field in 5% of that? No, no I don’t.

The only issue I have with the suggestion is that it doesn’t suggest anything to fix WHY the Atlantean Essence is so powerful to begin with, which is the Atlantean modifier itself. Just getting lucky in Dark Sea fishing still allows for Sunken Gear to carry the modifier, which is too powerful in its current state. The problem is that nerfing the positive stat would be extremely difficult, since you have to balance out the raw strength of the stat gained from the modifier with constant Insanity effects.

I think what @BlueFighter15 suggested would be a fair enough compromise; Drawback is easier to balance and is often found on otherwise-ludicrously powerful items. It also doesn’t force the player to watch a slideshow of effects to keep themself from getting statchecked almost every time they fight others.

well the thing is, you’d have to track all items that have had atlantean added manually on them, otherwise, with the tens or even hundreds of atlantean items you get from dark sea runs, everyone would just be swimming in drachmae

It’s also important to note the vast difference in power between the levels, Insanity I is virtually unnoticeable, Insanity II is quite a big issue and Insanity III is only usable by AoE nuke builds

i didn’t really care about armor stat stuff at first until i figured that having to play with random annoying effects in exchange for stats is neither fun nor is it good game design

might as well remove the modifier too, because the problems with atlantean mod is the mod itself and not really essence

While many people brought that up, I really don’t think so. The problematic atlantean items currently are mainly boss drops and sunken gears, but by removing the essence, you cut that list to just basically be items that can hold other modifiers, making atlantean a much tamer boost, as it would “only” double the value of the regular modifiers

honestly i do kinda agree that i hate insanity on atlantean. Personally, i wouldn’t remove the essense, but give it a different drawback— the actual drawback stat. I feel its better to still have the concept of Atlantean essence, but insanity isn’t enough of a deterrent; and removes a lot of the value from natural insanity (as you’ve said).

I think Drawback 2-4 should be a good enough compensation; Drawback is already found in only dark sea related gear, so its not too out of pocket. But getting such a status is already hard to justify and requires actually having some commitment to your stats — same reason running painites is a difficult choice for some, 150 defense is actually around the amount Atlantean gives (126 defense for reference); but since the atlantean modifier can give any stat, i think its fair that its slightly weaker than painites.

Overall, i think removing it is bad because it’ll waste several peoples time and money on collecting the items, but providing it with a side option is a far better solution without wasting resources. even if Drawback isn’t the stat atlantean essence gives, i feel that something else other than insanity is definitely warranted.

i’ve never liked sweaty insanity builds, or the fact that you need to be willing to run them to match up with the people who jump you. definitely in favor of this one

Atlantean Essence needs to get out. Despite being a major boon to Dark Sea run profits, the impact it has on combat is just infuriating. Free stats on any item once you adapt to Insanity.

I don’t think the essence itself should be removed, but the insanity it provides definitely should be. I’m not photosensitive, but the fact I have to potentially sacrifice my vision just to have an edge in PVP is ridiculous

Using atlantean essences to turn into an atlantean :pray:

Atlantean Essence should just increase the armor’s stats by 25% and decrease opposing stats, for example an Atlantean Titanium Chestplate would have negative power, an Atlantean Adventurer’s jacket would have negative attack speed (there should be a single stat set for every stat) an Atlantean Caped Silver Pauldrons should make you lose Attack Size and Regeneeation. No insanity. Maybe a logbook page after collecting your first Atlantean Essence explaining with a chart. Simple.

Honestly I had an idea about ‘curse scrolls’ which would be enchantments that gave extremely high amounts of a certain stat or two max, but would take away significant amounts of some other stats
I might make it, idk…

i am a huge hater of removing mechanics, especialy those who help players, but i genuinely beleive this is something we actualy need
