Explanation:
The deckhand rework is here and its great, but there’s some small things that would make it even better than it already is.
The Changes:
Loyalty
The menu to give gifts to deckhands should now:
1: Only go away when clicked off of so we don’t have to open the menu again between every gift.
2: Only show items the deckhand will accept so we don’t have to scroll through a bunch of junk.
3: Show those items in order of loyalty value so we can better see what each item is worth.
Chef
Now uses random ingredients/seasonings alongside the fish in cooking, at higher tiers, they’d stop using ingredients that “lose flavor” and would start using seasonings that actually match the meal they’re cooking ontop of just using better ingredients.
Additionally, if a chef deckhand cooks a gold/legendary fish, you should get the double scales regardless since no deckhand profession should ever have a downside.
Alternatively, there could just be a setting to disable them ever cooking gold/legendary fish.
Navigator
Effect duration should be increased noticeably even if the actual effects need to be nerfed in exchange.
Right now navigator effects last a solid 1 second and that really undermines the benefit.
This might be stepping slightly into balance suggestion territory but a 1 second speedboost, no matter how big, will almost never make a noticable difference.
Additionally, navigators should be able to passively spot structures and islands when in the dark sea, I’m about 90% sure this is what everybody was hoping for when they heard we were getting navigators.
For example:
“Captain, enemy ship dead ahead/behind us/portside/starboard!”
Only enemy ships would be called out “behind us” since it’d be useless to be told about the island you just left.
Of course the range of this effect should be noticeably larger than the base visibility range we have.
There’s probably plenty more QoL changes that’d be useful for players but I haven’t upgraded every type of deckhand and the update hasn’t been out long enough for the specifics of how others work to be well known.
Feedback is appreciated and feel free to talk about any other small changes.
