So... cameras

Okay hear me out, what do you think a camera would look like in the AO universe? Because in the real world by this point (1855) we have early collodion processes and the daguerrotype is at least some decades old but surely we can make something nicer with just magic.

Maybe a set of painting supplies that just paint with themselves or magically treated paper that reacts to being shown stuff. What do you think?

Btw I know that the point of the setting isn’t to have tech that is 1:1 with what we had in the real world by the point the game is set in, it’s not the real world. I just wanted to know what other people thing.

maybe it’d be like early film cameras? (such as Thomas Edison’s Kinetograph in 1891)

after all since the setting isn’t necessarily 1:1, and in the Arcane Adventures Webtoon those cameras definitely existed using flash magic to burn it into film (albeit with the downsides of fragility and being relatively expensive and rare to find)

the year ‘0’ is when magic was invented, which was roughly 100 years after the birth of jesus christ
so its actually 1955 and not 1855

The game says 1855 so that’s what I am going with.

I am almost certain that even tho its 19th century the technology is at like 400 years behind due to idk, constant humanity wipes and maybe a bit of war seas shenanigans

Maybe there are mages that can draw a perfect 1:1 replica of something they’ve seen?
Maybe there are grand paint mages, who use artificial ‘paint magic’ to swiftly draw on canvases.

Oh wow this is my first time hearing of these. I’m more familiar with photography rather than video.

You mean film photography or digital photography?

Edit: I completely misread what your comment said lmao.

I do digital photography but on the history side of things I am also more familiar with photography rather than film.

Well iirc the cameras in the AA Webtoon are of the film variant (as the Flash magic, basically a mutation/lost magic version of Light magic, works like a film camera’s chemical reaction with light-sensitive film)
