Anyway something just happened and I’ll give you step by step guide on how to replicate it

  1. Be me
  2. Take a shower
  3. Start randomly thinking
  4. Accidentally solve Deltarune
  5. Feel your mind explode
  6. Realise your theory doesn’t involve Gaster and therefore no one will believe you
  7. Cry

Is that like actually a thing with people where being in the shower causes your brain to start having 200% more creativity

I’ve worked out what seems like a pretty plausible theory as to what’s really going on here

deltarune spoilers

Deltarune is a game that leaves a lot of burning questions, each chapter asking more than it answers. By far the greatest question that has taken the community by storm is the question of who the Roaring Knight, the game’s supposed main antagonist, truly is, with the general consensus being December “Dess” Holiday, the older sister of the game’s tritagonist, Noelle. Dess has been missing for a while now, and YEAH OKAY NOBODY CARES.

I agree with the Dess theory, but that’s not what I’m here to talk about. I, in fact, wholeheartedly believe in it, so I don’t bother thinking too hard about who the Roaring Knight really is. But there is one character who makes me very curious, a character only known as the Strange Someone. I was thinking about who this could be and this led me down a rabbithole of Deltarune deeper than any I’ve seen before. And I think I have an answer.

Now, the Strange Someone is the name used for the mysterious entity responsible for the insanity of characters like Jevil and Spamton. It is the one who is implied to be giving the Shadow Crystals to Jevil and Spamton, who do listen to it, Gerson, who doesn’t listen to it because he doesn’t actually care, and… the Roaring Knight. Wait - the Knight, the game’s big bad, is another puppet? Well… not just any other.

The Knight is an almost impossible boss usually, which makes it a lot harder to get the Shadow Crystal off of them. However, the game’s third chapter, Late Night, the chapter the Knight’s battle occurs in, has a secret side questline, known as the Sword Route. To start the Sword Route, the player needs to get a rank of S, T, or Z on Tenna’s first board - keep Tenna in mind, we’re coming back to him later - which will allow access to a secret changing room. In this room we can meet up with a new mysterious character, Ramb, who runs the concessions in Tenna’s greenroom. You can technically meet Ramb there but this is the only bit where he’s actually important. Ramb is in front of a door, and he tells us that behind the door is the original unaltered version of the game Tenna has us playing throughout Late Night, and that the version Tenna is making us play has had a lot of alterations. Ramb lets us on, promising to keep an eye out for Tenna.

NOW, WHY WOULD TENNA BE WANTING TO ALTER THE GAME, HMM? (I also want it to be very clear that Tenna and Spamton know each other and have a history, that’ll be important later).

When we enter and try to turn on the game, we are told we have no controller, so we backtrack and find a new key item - the Odd Controller. The buttons on this controller are described as being “an ugly pink and yellow”.

Pink and yellow is a very important colour combination. They are the colour of Spamton’s eyes, when he is wearing the Dealmaker glasses which are given to you alongside the Shadow Crystal if you spare Spamton NEO. They are also the colour of the eyes of FRIEND, a mysterious entity who is first seen watching you when you are trying to help Spamton when he is tricking you into helping him become Spamton NEO. Keep FRIEND in your head. We’ll soon be back to it.

If you go back to the game and plug in the Odd Controller, the game will open and the Sword Route will begin. Before we get into that, however, let me explain the Weird Route - this route begins in Chapter 2, A Cyber’s World, in the Cyber City area. When Noelle joins your party you need to backtrack and use Noelle’s Ice Shock to start freezing every enemy in Cyber City, saying “Proceed” at every opportunity, until you can get a Freeze Ring. Keep doing this until you can get a Thorn Ring from Spamton, which will allow you to cast a new spell on Berdly - Snow Grave, fully freezing him. Then things are different in Queen’s Mansion and Kris alone fights Spamton NEO at the end, then some stuff in Chapter 4 (Prophecy), so the story goes, so the story goes. Gyaa ha ha.

In the Sword Route, the map is largely the same, but there are unusual enemies everywhere. You have to grab a sword from a certain location on the map which you then use to slaughter these enemies to level up until you reach max level, where you can start destroying trees to go out of bounds. After a while of doing this, you will find a box containing the Ice Key, and the game will stop. There is a secret room in this board where for a split second you can see a mysterious black ghost-like entity flying away from you. This is very important later.

In the second Sword Route board, you only need to reach Level 2, and then you can use a raft to go to a glacier which you enter with the Ice Key into a dungeon where there are more enemies, but these ones you can’t defeat alone. You find an entity called the White Cloak within the glacier, and you can use her to fire ranged attacks at the enemies… which freeze them. This is a representation of Noelle on the Weird Route, as proven after all enemies are defeated and the White Cloak freezes one more - a blue bird, representing Berdly, as he is stopping you from advancing. Then after navigating through a maze you reach a door, that when interacted with, makes two statements. “THE ICE KEY WAS USED UP” and “SHE WAS USED UP”. The White Cloak disappears and the door opens, so you can enter. You receive some dialogue from an unknown entity, before being given a Shelter Key and being told “YOU WERE USED UP”.

Before the third board you see Ramb half-petrified and move him out the way, eliminating him as a suspect for the things that are about to happen. You start the third board and this time Susie and Ralsei are in the game with you.

You kill them.

You then find a manhole and kill all the enemies until you reach the highest level. You then find an in-game version of Tenna who states he has completed your “deal”.

You kill him.

You can then use the Shelter Key to enter an in-game version of the shelter in the Light World, where you speak to the entity that has been talking to you. It tells you that it is fun playing like this, and that is why you want the Shadow Crystals (that’s the first time they’ve been called by name) and the Shadow Mantle that the entity is holding. It then claims that it won’t get you what you want but knows you are just enjoying it, and if you did the Weird Route in A Cyber’s World, it states “the same part of you that enjoyed yesterday, knowing you could say it wasn’t really you”. It then states it can see in the dark and a fight starts.

HERE’S WHERE THINGS GET INTERESTING. This entity has been nicknamed Eram by the community on account of its pre-battle theme, ERAM. One of Eram’s attacks is summoning copies of FRIEND to attack you. How does Eram know about FRIEND? …we’ll get to that. When you beat Eram, it doesn’t seem too bothered, it just states that it wanted to see you violent. It then puts the Shadow Mantle (which, by the way, is the armour that helps beat the Knight) out of reach and some things happen but ultimately none of that matters now.

So, here’s why I believe that the true identity of the Strange Someone, the being who caused Jevil and Spamton to go insane, is none other than Eram, and why I believe Eram wants us on the Weird Route and that that is the only way we can stop it.

Let’s talk about the Knight first. The Knight has a Shadow Crystal, meaning it is in contact with the Strange Someone or has been at some point, but how on earth has Eram ended up with the one thing that can mitigate the Knight’s threat? I personally believe that the Knight is Eram’s top enforcer, and its scapegoat. I don’t think Eram wants the Roaring necessarily, I think the Knight wants that itself, but Eram just wants to hurt people and that’s a good way.

Now, Jevil. I think what happened here is that Eram spoke to Jevil to teach him about the Knight, and we know from Prophecy that Jevil then told King. King then put Lancer and the Knight into power, but Jevil went progressively more mad from Eram’s influence which is why he wants to slaughter the Card Kingdom and sees it at a game, prompting Seam to lock Jevil away. Great, now Eram has lost its proxy and the Card Kingdom is safe, right? No. Ever noticed how King’s cape looks a lot like Eram? I think Eram is a parasite and when Eram couldn’t get across to King through the proxy of Jevil, Eram had to start communicating with King directly, which is why King still believes it after seeing Jevil was mad, and why Seam is now collecting the Shadow Crystals.

Okay, so now it’s time for Spamton. It is known that Spamton was formerly an Addison, but he really doesn’t look like one. BOOM. Eram. Let’s talk about Spamton’s history for a moment - at one point, he struck a deal with Tenna which resulted in him befriending both Tenna and Mike. Spamton began teaching Tenna how to use technology, and Tenna gave him all his advice, with Spamton in return promising he would teach Tenna how to become a big shot. When Spamton was about to explain it, he received a call from the Strange Someone and ran away, his face pale. It’s implied Eram was trying to silence Spamton as shown in later dialogue with Spamton. When Spamton becomes NEO, he is being held up by strings, implying Eram is still holding him back. That’s why Tenna altered and hid the original game and prohibited using it - he knows Eram is dangerous and doesn’t want him near anyone.

There’s not a lot to say about Gerson - Eram gave him a Shadow Crystal to do something with but Gerson didn’t want to do so. Now we can start talking about the Weird Route… which I now believe to be the true canon route.

What Eram shows is a direct mirroring of the Weird Route, to start with, and we will get back to that. We know that the cast’s current goal is to enter the Shelter (where Eram was in the game) to enter the Dark World in there to stop the Knight. We know from the prophecy that to save the world, something bad has to happen… hmm. What bad thing happens in the game that Ralsei might not want Susie to see? What sort of bad thing that lets us even get close to Eram to begin with?

Kris killing Susie and Ralsei.

I think in the Weird Route at some point, Noelle will be too spent to go on which will put her out of action, then Kris will kill or otherwise incapacitate the Fun Gang under the SOUL’s influence. This is how Kris can get into the Shelter, how Eram and the Knight will LET them in. We know Seam is collecting Shadow Crystals and we are going to need them all, no doubt. There’ll be a way for those who miss the secret bosses I think, or it might be a Knight case where what I’m about to explain will make things less impossible, but you do actually have to win this time.

We know from Malius that the Twisted Sword, the strongest weapon in the game, is made of the Thorn Ring and a Pure Crystal. I think Seam is going to turn all five Shadow Crystals into a Pure Crystal, and then we can get the Thorn Ring from Noelle when she is out of action, and we then make the Twisted Sword which makes the final fight against Eram a lot easier.

It’d be a rotten trick from Toby but we’ve seen that before. I think this is entirely possible to be honest - the idea that our choices don’t matter would be pushed to the absolute extreme and we’d be shown that Deltarune genuinely might not have a good ending.

And that’s the Eram Theory, also known as my own personal unbridled insanity.

I played deltarune chapter 1 and chapter 2 before and I have no interest to be honest anymore but this is long af

When the final boss of chapter 7 casually has every leitmotif. The real question is what we would do with the pure crystal if we aren’t doing wrong save. This would also make it to where chapter 6 and 7 likely won’t have a super boss, unless seam is a super boss for 6. Wrong save we use the light for evil but then would just having it in pacifist or no mercy change the ending? Otherwise it becomes a useless item for the other routes. Just my part on this
