I think a lot of us here still remember the World of Magic days, I’m not so sure the WoM to “new” AO player ratio, but I’d imagine we have a few people who didn’t play the original
(AA players sit the fuck down this isn’t about you)
“TGR” still lingers in a few of our heads. TOTAL GAME REWORK. This was done because ultimately WoM was NOT an Arcane game but rather a Fairy Tail knockoff with extra magic LARPs added to it
Although vetex mainly talked about how TGR was done because of a shower thought + the fact that it wasnt living up to AA, we also need to recognize a pattern that persists even to Arcane Odyssey’s current game state: Optimization
In WoM the game plan was to just have everything be on one continent. While I’m pretty sure there was some speculation or plans to split up different continent parts into different servers, the fact still stands that the huge map didn’t allow for much optimization
However AO has hit the same threshold. With the same amount of islands to WoM land in each server PLUS the dark sea PLUS vfx PLUS terrain destruction it was only a matter of time before stuff caught up to AO
Now with Vetex (and the man whose name will live in digital permanent fame) focusing on optimization: the tendency of arcane odyssey’s frames to fall WILL be negated for a while, if not handled like 70% completely
Personally I think this marks a turning point for AO. I have had a few friends love the game, but they just can’t really play it all that well cause of lag and ping. Not only will this obv help out the current players but this will make it easier for fresh faces to log onto the game. And if you have lingered around enough in online spaces, you definitely realize the importance of an inflow of new people.
I hope Vetex continues to let people onto the team, budget willing of course
