What do you feel about Arcane Odyssey storytelling and why?

Because their fight is none canon. The two canon none magic users we fight are Agros. And elius’s sister. Agros leaves us with a longer injury but even still he lost to a homeless bum with no memories and only a month active. Even with legacy we are a savant and overcome YEARS and YEARS of training is absurd. And the sister while leaving is winded seem overall fine.

so far story mid. Good world building though

Not gonna repeat what others said so I’ll say something unique

I think there’s an inherent flaw within Roblox’s platform ecosystem that de incentivizes making good long form stories in favor of quick easy games for money (Well duh)

This game would be better if Vetex had developed as a traditional game dev instead of a roblox one, cuz then the standards would be higher (Duh again)

Imagine the possibilities: New Vegas questline style quests and planescape torment level storytelling. But then again this is a high level of standard that no Roblox dev can even hope to achieve.

This is because Roblox calls itself a platform but deep down they and their developers (outside of the few passionate ones) treat it as a game they can make money off of like it has been for all these years. It’s why you barely see a lot of games that could rival even a 6/10 game you can find on steam, and why so many roblox devs can get away with dogshit design choices and trends they’d get crucified for anywhere else. The only way they can compete is by not costing money and being relatively easy for people with weaker hardware to play.

(Don’t mind me committing game dev racism, getting a game dev job made me see the light (Not taking Roblox seriously as a platform))

Not to say AO is bad but it could be much more

It may be just what we value in a story is different but I disagree. Characters ARE the story, and they’re the reason why there’s plot to begin with. I couldn’t bring myself to be invested in the conflict this game presented because how very little was done to make me care about the people in said conflict.

do we all just agree that skyhall needs a complete rewrite

I think the early part was good. Could be expanded but I wouldn’t call that a rewrite. From the docks explosion onwards needs a complete rewrite yes

As mentioned by others here, there also should be a Palo Town section of some kind. Seriously, there’s this gap between Frostmill and Stepstones that could easily be filled with a story segment on the inhabited island located more or less in between the two. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, maybe just speaking to some characters and/or an opportunity to teach players about some game mechanics.

they should make edward and rick hendrix’s reflex quest apart of the story tbh
maybe enizor too but hes easy to find so maybe not

For someone as important to gameplay as Edward is, it’s kinda weird that they decided to put him on a random tiny island that an average level 15 player would probably not visit without prior knowledge of Edward being there

Also, I remember hearing that dodge reflex would be obtained automatically at level 150, which just didn’t happen for me

Am I mistaken or is this a bug of some kind

it was removed for an unknown reason one of the testers said

I don’t entirely disagree, but I think it is best when characters, and additions to the story, synergize with and enhance the existing story. For example, hearing Morden talk about the Death Curse’s influence explains his lack of action and gives us insight into the nature of Curses, which I think serves as a good contrast to the role of Curses in the story - instead of the power this tool brings to the user, we hear of the trouble the Curse causes the user. I think this enhanced the story by giving us what I think is additional context to what he said at the Forest of Masts. “I don’t want to kill” wasn’t just a response to Iris’ question, it was a response to the Death Curse. At least, that’s how I envision it.

But what would we stand to gain by putting the main story on hold so we get something unrelated to the story, even if it involves a character? There is a time and place for exploring side stories that don’t directly add to the main story, and it’s not on the main story’s time; I don’t want the main quest interrupted so we can go orange shopping with Morden and hear about how he feels. I do think there’s a lack of a vehicle to explore these potential side stories, hence my idea of main story adjacent side quests and the ability to revisit the story in case any were missed.

I suppose I just think differently on the matter; the journey of some people brought together by being on the short end of a conspiracy and seeking to right wrongs done by said conspiracy is a captivating enough story for me to be interested in it. In turn, I think that focusing on the movement of factions and the intrigue works well with this idea, and puts us in the character’s shoes - we’re learning more about the Order, and the world they want to control, which is relevant to the goals of the protagonists.

I was fine with the Skyhall part of the story because I felt it was interesting to see (what I guess is) an Order power play being carried out from the outside, and it was interesting to guess at what the whole plan was and what they stand to gain from having Skyhall under their thumb.

bad,

It has a feeling that vetex haven’t thought through how anything in this world would work.

Like the ideas of kings and princes, I HATE with a passion because Vetex COULD HAVE MADE IT SO GOOD because of how the magic system is set up.
With magic being passed down by blood, it could make sense and act as a lesson in why that is a REALLY, REALLY BAD IDEA
But no, it’s just nepo baby all of the way down

also Basic economics would do WONDERS for the world building
like why is “Tiberia” poor?

"Tiberia was a mining town; however, due to extreme militarization/and the war with the Thorne Empire, it quickly grew into a bloated mess of a district. By the end of the war, much of the accessible ore was gone, and with safety disregarded, many of the mines were unusable, risking cave-ins and improper ventilation.

The king then ended much of the government procurement due to high hazard pay, instead opting for the new labor force of slaves/forced workers.

With the still lingering heavy metals poisoning any remaining opportunities far into the future."

NAH: it’s poor because “neglect from the Crown of Ravenna”

The story so far? All I got to say is I’m betting against it at this point
I’m picking ALL of the bad choices because I hate all of the characters so far

To be real vetex should have gone full Attack on Titan season 1-2
where the main enemies are Atlanteans, with the characters going about trying to make a united front, and the Order of Aesir being a major side plot
because so far, all of our charaters seems like lucky, selfish, murder hobos

it could potentially be because its facing away from the rest of the populated bronze sea so it might not get much trade or imports as opposed to rasna or rubica which is much more convenient to access

thanks for slopping by

btw could people saying bronze sea story is better than nimbus elaborate further because i completely and utterly disagree and i dont really get how you could think that

NAH: it’s poor because “neglect from the Crown of Ravenna”

Characterization shouldn’t stop the main story, It should’ve been woven into the main story as something inseparable. The story, the world ARE the characters, the people, It’s their journey.

As it stands, Morden and Iris (among many others) is just frustratingly bland. From personal stakes, chemistry between each other and down to the way to speak… there’s just so little subtext to them that trying to claw out any deeper meaning out of their characters feels like I’m compensating for the writers lack of trying.

In the end of the day and as I’ve already said, what you value in story might just be different than mine. To me, I value the characters and how they are written the most, and the game storytelling unfortunately falls very VERY short in that aspect.

I feel like Liara and Tiberia are two examples of the use of blatant injustice solely to make the reader and other characters mad

In my own writing, I am very prone to this, so I can’t say it’s easy to avoid

Idk about you, but I really hope to see the characters reach their full potential… man…

This has me salivating.. I really wish the kingdoms were more fleshed out. Sameria has more military power than Ravenna & Skyhall yet we don’t see that at all. Shouldn’t battle be a decent part of the culture? Also Thermo Fist comes from Sameria yet we see nothing of it. No mentor(s) no arenas just sand.
