never heard anyone describe him this way but this perfectly conveys the emotions I went through when I fought him on release
itâs the fact people can barely see where allanon is, the grab attack is absolute bogus, et cetera.
spamming blasts from a distance can be seen as a cheese method ![]()
Yeah but isnât that still true in phase 1 regardless
i dont mind it but when im on 1 roblox volume and the menu music set to 50% and it STILL ruptures my eardrums.. i tend to just mute it
true, its oddly convenient that once we show up is when all hell breaks loose (and almost always is like that)
i wouldnt of minded going up there and seeing the place in a panic because the prince and his fiance were assassinated recently (like before we came) and then we work from there, but eh oh well
Genuinely one of the worst design bosses and perfectly showcases vetexs favoring lore/spectacle than gameplay.
The giant self aoe spell is WAYYYY too big.
Moves more than Calvus.
And good freaking luck actually seeing him with the 7000 particles he emits by just existing.
And magic sense makes his aura the same color as said particles so yeah.
This is only a mage, imagine what he plans for a curse user. We are cooked
The goal was probably to make us bond and sympathize with Allanon before his bitch got murked. Frankly, I feel like thatâs a better idea than starting the chapter in medias res, as those are the biggest story complaints regarding the two other Nimbus sea story bosses.
The issue is the fact that we really donât get that much bonding. None of the characters feel developed. Nimbus lands have 14 islands, yet we only ever visit 5 of them in total.
Liara is literally made as a placeholder love interest, born to die and throw her lover into grief. If we were shown her hurrying to help an injured commoner despite being the crown princeâs fiancee, seeing her not bothering about her dignity just in order to help people, and be frowned upon by the noble families for that, that would make her feel like a character. It would further build the conflict if the people looked down on her for being a descendant of sea-born people, yet also love her for readily helping and trying to prove herself.
Allanonâs whole build-up would also make more sense if it was steady. Mageskin disease is said not to turn people into mindless berserkers, yet he is throwing hands the moment heâs on the street, and one argument later is ready to commit genocide. It should be more steady, just him hearing whispers about how Liaraâs better off dead and about how his idea was delusional, until he finally crashes out, starts burning the town but is injured or something, so he retreats to the Wilds and gets the idea to attack the islands from afar and break the chains.
At the same time, the player should see scenes of people mourning Liara, maybe some engineer in his hideout using the remains of Allanonâs skyship to try and repair, even improve on it, scenes that show the player that, although there are some loud bigots, many in the end do care for both Liara and Allanon and hold no qualms with the people from the sea. Something to tell the player that Skyhall actually is worth saving.
Of course, this brings up the most glaring issue: the placement of the chapter. We are sent on a diplomatic mission to gather reinforcements from Skyhall, and we have to do it urgently, leaving little time for proper development. That is a way bigger issue, however.
well said
one thing i will point out though is that:
while it doesnt turn them into mindless berserkers, it does make them much much more agitatable (is that a word?), hence why the plant that does is it called agraveratie or something (vetex is super duper good at naming things, take the prefix of what the thing does and then a suffix of what it is), and allanon had well enough reason to get upset even without the disease (since his brother killed his fiance and tried to kill him, and when confronted he was called mad/delusional and practically ignored)
It still feels way too quick imo, makes it hard to sympathize with Allanon when he goes from 0 to billions must die in 5 minutes. I feel like it would be better to show him struggling against the disease and keeping himself remarkably stable through everything, but then finally breaking down after seeing both his family and his kingdom seemingly turning their backs to him.
i mean he kinda does in the throne room scene since you can see his outbursts when he conjures his wings, but yeah its like a 2 minute scene so doesnt leave much impact lmao
dare i say the only vfx slop boss
can we talk about the king tho?
bro only banish the guy THAT TRIED TO SEND THE KINGDOM TO HELL
The reason why? because itâs his son
LIKE LAD?
HE LOST HIS GF AND CRASHED OUT WITH AN ATTEMPTED GENOCIDE
ON THE KINGDOM, NOT EVEN TO ROOT OUT THE KILLERS JUST THE KINGDOM
and gets pardoned because his daddy is a coward and a fool, but is the king
(copy and paste)
After Allanon and Ivar I donât want to even think about future bosses and their aoe
Good concept, terrible execution. Needed more build-up overall, both in story and lore. Boss fight has some cool ideas and moves, but largely gets weighed down by absurd particle spam and is generally annoying to fight with most fighting styles.
Unlike most I did kinda enjoy the bossfight, and it was satisfying asf to kill him in his second phase. However my only problem is the story and other things that BlueFighter15 mentioned in their post that they typed. But as a character I enjoyed Allanon and I was pissed to know that it all happened in 3 days
. This arc felt like a letdown and I genuinely wish we got like AT LEAST some Ravenna quality, but no. But likewise as I said, he wasnât too hard of a boss and was pretty easy (I main mage on my main file). Same goes to say for Jarl Ivar, he was a pretty easy boss, albeit I could see why in my other play throughs of how bullshittery it was for other players
.
i hope that pathetic limp weak noodle shithead particle spamming âGOOOONE! SHEâS GOOOOONE!â poopy face died when he fell off of the wilds
he definitely didnt but a girl can dream
Iâve never had issues with the grab attack (if I remember) but I absolutely had issues with the resetting thing, oddly enough he never lost aggro he just respawned mid fight
Funny thing is (if I remember correctly) it wasnât even made specifically for Arcane Odyssey/World of Magic, though I could be wrong so take that with a bit of salt. I think the song is called âA Concerning Plotâ or that could be another track
We already kinda had a curse user fight in the form of Ormolu, but thatâs kinda a bit iffy considering how unique Ormolu is to the average curse user. So yeah still a bit worried if/when we fight an actual curse user
Yeah, a curse user that can MOVE.
And as we all know, vetex is the best at designing moving enemies right? : )
