It probably didn’t, but vetex chose to ignore them for the Vision™
General Argos may be easier but at least he has buildup behind him, jarl ivar appears out of nowhere with no buildup with a tiny arena and sends you straight to valhalla
fuuuuck this guy
Regardless of how cool it was for you to do that, it doesn’t disprove my main problem with the fight (wanting to force parries with the huge aoe when in every previous fight dodging would have been the best option)
You are just one of the few people that have actually practiced parrying (parried basically all of those big attacks, something the average player could very likely end up having 0 experience in cause the game never properly teaches you and then we got this boss saying screw you if you hadn’t practiced)
AO previously promoted more around mobility and not getting hit in the first place (parry still deals 10% dmg, so why would anyone actually try to parry when they could just get out of the way?)
Also i just don’t like parry based games in general on roblox, and AO does it even worse by making blocking clunky so it takes on additional moment to actually move the arms into the blocking position after ping
i agree with you, but to be fair phase 2 only has one attack that is truly undodgable under almost all circumstances (the 200 damage pulsewave, which is the main attack that you see me parry constantly), and everything else about phase 2 is genuinely pretty good outside of that. a lot of my other parries were honestly more out of panic instinct than anything else because im very rusty and was doing this at like 10pm on jet lag. outside of the pulsewave, he still makes you decide on dodge/attack and only parry when it’s an absolute emergency, just that due to the faster attacks and smaller arena you’re going to have to make correct decisions much quicker (which is what i like about the fight).
my main problem is that it feels like vetex didn’t intentionally design ivars’ fight to be that way. considering his comments on how he said the boss was designed around parrying, i have a sinking suspicion that he never intended for the 700 damage axe to be dodgable. it’s further supported by phase 1 being an actual forced parry check where most of his attacks are not consistently avoidable and you’re supposed to parry them but it’s usually better to keep mashing instead.
basically all in all while ivar isn’t too bad (his phase 2 at least) it feels like foreshadowing for something much worse. i want to highlight the good of the ivar, but i also want to criticize vetex for seemingly thinking everything horrendous about ivar is what makes him good
I think I said this earlier but Ivar fucking sucks and the reason no one draws him is because he genuinely just exists to piss you off
I hated this guy, I only won because I got all my deckhands and the ghost to all bum rush him and it still took me several attempts to kill him
Okay, sorry, should have clarified: block the axe attack. Everything else, do the DPS race.
And yes, this does work on phase 2. I know because it’s the way I beat the guy. With a Lightning Conjurer. With Cerynx gear.
wondering if the aoe downscaling will improve his boss fight (if it applies to bosses aswell)
It won’t, that’s basically confirmed.
He is balanced around parrying, reducing his size goes against the main goal of his balancing, therefore it stays the same.

cmon you saw the video, you should know at this point that the boss really isn’t even that hard.
future bosses will only be just as if not harder than this so you should really get used to it.
- boss isnt even that hard
- evidence is a guy who is far (FAR) above the average skill level
what did theoreticalexistence mean by this
I mean sure I can’t beat the boss without getting hit more than a couple times if I’m wearing appropriate equipment for a newer player, but these guys are acting like the fight is completely impossible.
the boss really isn’t that hard, people are just geared to brute force everything by how comedically easy the bronze sea is and Ivar makes doing that much harder.
Right. Go dive at 50 meters depth, then get out in 10 minutes. Report back with the results.
also I forgot to mention earlier, my point wasn’t that a guy nearly nohit the boss, its that the video clearly shows how small most of Ivar’s attacks actually are.
Everything is clearly telegraphed and will only hit you if you do not respond correctly.
A boss you don’t need to learn how to fight is not a boss, its a stat check.
oh boy I wonder where I need to go when two big metal plates pop up to my sides.
oh no he spread metal circles around everywhere, how could I possibly respond?
come on people.
It’s moreso that virtually every other boss has had the pattern of not needing to learn the attacks throughout to fight said boss, the act of introducing such a boss suddenly is rather silly, even worse is balancing it around a defensive tool the greater majority of players have not learned to use prior to said fight.
It doesn’t matter if it is relatively easy to learn the boss’ attacks, it’s that the players have been taught that they do not need to learn a boss’ attacks and hence continue the game with said knowledge.
It’d be fine to introduce such a boss in the early game to teach the player some aspects around defensive combat, but this is not early game, it takes multiple hours to reach this point.
yeah that’s what I said, this is the problem.
it isn’t that Ivar is ‘too hard’, its that the rest of the game before him is so easy that most players just ignore whatever the boss is doing.
I wish he dropped decent armor because for the “hardest boss in the game” currently there’s no real reason to refight him without a warrior slot
