As you may know, the current meta is heat-based, fast, and DoT magics due to their high damage potential with minimal drawback. Swords, especially the Sunken Sword, are meta as well due to their fast-casting AoE abilities. Slow and plain magics are currently not very effective in the current meta. Spears are decent, but not meta due to how tough they are to hit consistently in melee combat.
The meta will definitely shift next update due to some important changes taking place:
Power fix: Power will take into account a magic’s damage affinity rather than adding 1 flat damage to a magic’s base damage. This indirectly nerfs all magics except for Earth, Iron, and Gold due to their damage affinities being 1 or above. Fast/DoT magics will take the hardest hit from this change.
Sunken Sword nerf: The Sunken Sword will be nerfed. How it was nerfed is not to be disclosed currently, but it may still affect the weapon meta.
New rare weapons: Vastira and Oathkeeper will make their debut to possibly cause changes to the weapon meta. Currently, Vastira’s Mighty Crash does not destroy projectiles, but Oathkeeper’s Raging Storm does, allowing it to effectively counter multi blasts.
Casting Speed fix: Casting Speed in the maingame currently has the inverse effect of increasing your cast times. This will be fixed, opening up another possible build for the meta.
Another change: There is a change that, in my opinion, will definitely affect the gear meta that I cannot disclose at the moment.
I think the new meta will be a Strong Oathkeeper with a glass cannon build with some casting speed sprinkled in. Strong Oathkeeper would be able to deal potentially 350+ damage if all slashes land, and glass cannons, especially with slower magics, will probably be not only viable, but deadly with the upcoming changes.
The new meta build will probably be:
Tanky, and a duo of rare weapons.
Imagine Vastria and Sunken, use sunken ability into vastria and deal almost 350 damage + bleed.
Then if u have oathkeeper as well you can keep the pressure on.
The new meta will probably be heavy weapon/combo based.
I’m not sure about the glasscannon part, I think a hybrid build will still be the default but possibly not with all hard to compensate for the damage decrease in most magics.
Oathkeeper will be a staple, magics that are weak at clashing can now counter multi blasts from heavier magics by shooting the ability straight at them. This would make charging your attacks detrimental.
Oathkeeper is a direct counter to heavy magics, destroying their otherwise superior blasts. This seems like another reason for glasscannon to not be ideal.
I’m not sure about the sunken sword, but I believe it will still be a solid choice, the other option being dual daggers depending on your preference and/or aiming abilities.
Gold magic.
Heavy magic beams are already really op. Now gold is getting 50% more damage. LOL.
And yeah, everyone would be using Oathkeeper. Thats literally a no brainer, since weapon damage don’t get affected by the power stat.
I think we’ll see the lower damage users use casting speed, Knockback and agility a lot more. Because the current build for weaker but faster magics is just glass cannon. But since they won’t get getting much from the power stat anymore, they’ll need to opt for something else to maximise efficiency.
Another broken meta prediction:
Ice users (or any other bleed synergy magic like Wood) going tank build while spamming Oathkeeper and melee. Ok let’s just agree first that Oathkeeper is really good. Since it’s a weapon and doesn’t rely on Power, people can opt for another stat like defence while still doing good weapon damage (and since wood and ice have below average magic affinity). But because they spam weapons, they’ll be able to deal good damage due to the damage buff.
I’d stick with my power and defense build, my weapons are definitely gonna be Oathkeeper, Vastira, and the Sunken Sword, all strong if I can get my hands on them
I think you should replace Vastira with something else. Like a thrown weapon might be better than Oathkeeper’s skill cause it doesn’t keep you in place for as long.
no Oathkeeper is definitely better.
They cant punish u with a magic spell (unless its placed explosion) cause the Oathkeeper’s projectiles clash with spells.
Vastira is a free self explosion that costs no mana, obviously you want it in your toolbar.
