What fictional series is AO/AA/WoM closest to?

  • Harry Potter
  • Percy Jackson
  • Lord of the Rings
  • None of these

percy jackson is the closest due only to its references to mythological figures (though the key here is that PJ does it artfully and with higher appreciation and accuracy to the mythos while Arcane is akin to using a celebrity’s name to promote a movie despite their playing a very minimal role)

harry potter has nothing in common aside from the presence of magic but the systems are so vastly different it’s a joke comparison

LOTD didn’t read/watch tbh, but imo they are the least alike

pretty boring tbh and yea not too close

As the name implies AO is a grand odyssey, a story about exploration and adventure. In terms of themes Percy Jackson and Harry Potter don’t really have the same feel as AO does, since they were mostly “the world is being threatened by an oncoming danger and I must stop it and save the world” rather than “I’m setting out on a romance dawn”. Didn’t read the LOTR series but I read the Hobbit a long time ago and I remember getting that sense of exploration and venturing on a grand quest.

Ofc the obvious answer is One Piece but that’s a kinda boring answer, I feel like there may be some other stories out there that have similar themes to AO but I haven’t read enough fantasy as I’d have liked to

Well… there were some ideas taken from One Piece for AA
And then there were some ideas taken from Fairy Tail (some were scrapped) for WoM

So I guess AO will have a combination of both ideas
I don’t think the ones you said would exactly connect to AO much at all

Percy Jackson is kind of similar because of the mythology. LOTR is kind of similar insofar as there are many different kingdoms that the protagonist kinda bounces between. Also, Sauron is even more cliche than Durza (to be fair LOTR was probably written before the dark lord trope was really a thing). I don’t see the connection to Harry Potter.

Percy Jackson probably has to be the closest due to both series sharing the same mythological figures. I haven’t read any of the books or watched the movies (were there movies?), so not sure about the story or lore similarities.

Harry Potter’s universe, system of magic are completely different, unless you really want to count shouting out the name of the spell you’re going to be casting (in which technically is only done in the game for the sake of y’know, naming the moves).

Lord of The Rings is just wayyyy off.

One Piece, while not being on here, DEFINATELY is the main inspiration lore wise, though I do suppose that like these the story does feel like the setup to a possible young adult novel.

One piece ^

What about Fairy Tail?

The only 3 shows I remember being close to AO/AA/WoM is probably one piece fairy tail and ATLA that’s all i can think of

ATLA?
ATLAntic story? XD

Avatar the Last Airbender and its sequel

oh…but no
AA/WOM/AO is One Piece + Fairy tail not Aang

Ik.

How

One Piece and a little bit of DB (you cannot tell me mode spells weren’t based off transformations in DBS)

nah its just a generic “anime transformation” prob

said generic anime transformation stemmed off DBZ
