Okay so I was going to argue that the GN probably wouldn’t have ex-post facto laws, and for all we know they may not. However, after some research I learned that most developed nations have some form of protection against such laws, so hats off to you for knowing more about this than I did.

Neviro’s age appears to be in a state of quantum super position. That changes from old to young depending on which writing your looking at. Since he describes himself as a young adult 39 days before the main story. Then there’s the notes from Gloam which can’t be more than around 30 if Neviro’s around his late 20s by the start of AO. However the extermination is old enough to have been hidden from public memory and have a few generations of Caesars come and go, so I honestly have no clue what’s going on here.

Yeah iirc tech wrote all the journals so I’m guessing there was just a lack of communication when a lot of these were made. Cause the journals seem to be the main source of problems here.

Honestly the biggest plothole is how a nation wide extermination was, needed to be, or kept a secret from the populace. I understand keeping it a secret from allies, but for a genocide on that scale to work you need the support of the citizenry.
There’s also Nero just doing nothing with Winterveil except building a fort. Like what? You had an entire kingdom sized island full of resources, and you built a trashy fort that doesn’t even defend anything? Nero is the worst conquerer I’ve ever seen.
