and for the sake of the question the mage is like level 70
I feel like their success is dependent on the magic they use, because some like magma would be able to inflict more physical injuries than something like shadow or lightning. Magma or metal, any really powerful magic would probably win the fight for you but a really weak magic could leave you screwed.

Ok I don’t think the lion is going to survive a giant ball of magma or flames coming straight at its face, or a giant metal boulder crashing down on it.
(Basically I think the mage would kill the lion pretty quickly)

the lion might win if they can perfect block the attacks enough and manage to get in (assuming theyre berserker build like most lions), but they typically have a larger hitbox than the average mage, so perhaps the mage wins this one

lions dont have magical energy so that probably makes magic a lot worse
but even without that, its strong enough to create craters, so i guess the lion just gets destroyed
hmm yes today I will set the lion on fire and then dump magma on it’s burning body
