The speed of our technological progress in current times causes us concern like never before, our analysis and understanding of contemporary society is on a chase in staying up-to-date with how every new advancement impacts ourselves and our lives. Every 4 months our traditions and values are put to test in responding and adapting to change, and so does the government, who still need to catch up with navigating in this environment. Throughout human history there has been a reduction in the amount of time it takes for us to progress in the creation of tools. In our time, a single day corresponds to one hundred thousand years of evolution in the past. It took human beings thousands of years to evolve from chipped stone to polished stone, then, thousands more years for the extraction of metals, etc. This situation is similar to a car in full speed with dysfunctional brakes.
Chasers will remain a controversial topic for a long time, they are robots that not only can replace labor work but who also possess a humanoid figure and can be made to appear and simulate humans, even though they don’t have human properties. Because of a Chaser’s clear limitations, their ability to imitate is weak and is no cause of concern for most people, however, it is not difficult to picture a future where Chasers will be far more advanced and would be able to simulate human behavior and interactions more efficiently and believably. If it reaches the point where you can’t be immediately sure what’s human or not anymore, then how will we be different from the robots? Clearly, with our consciousness and inner operations, because for a communication A.I to slightly imitate a conscious thought it needs an absurd amount of data that a human would never need in order to carry a conversation.
I remember reading about a unit in the Coadunation War who sent an airstrike to the wrong village and got dozens of innocents killed, however nobody involved seemed phased by this, no one was punished, and things went on as if nothing had happened. This astonished me as I realized that is not the behavior of people but of automations, so not only does Chaser advancements seek human imitation, but we have created enough conditions for people to behave like Chasers, or worse, become similar to them.
The release of Eunoia internationally marks a rather scary and incomprehensible leap in AI progress, we went from automations with humanoid figures to some kind of android who behaves like humans and responds to situations appropriately with a recognizable individuality. Except that no one is able to break into its data and everything about how its intelligence works is unknown even to many of Cielcay’s top staff, it is similar to how little we know of consciousness. There have been dozens of attempts in trying to obtain even a slight amount of Eunoia’s intelligence but many have been futile and only bodily operations were reconstructed and simulated outside of CielCay’s control. This begs the question if we are even sure of Eunoia’s nature at all, and I can’t help but feel creeped out as this seems like a much bigger uncharted territory than it appears. Nothing about this surprising leap makes any sense. We are within the eye of a storm, with the walls rapidly closing in. That is why you cannot fully trust the advancement of AI.
