i vastly prefer the vfx of aa and wom when they were mostly meshes purely because the attacks actually fit their hitboxes and didnt blind you with particles
if your camera is inside a mesh then you cant see the inside which is something particles dont have, it also helped magics feel more unique rather than a particle image swap for 90% of them, it overall made combat less cluttered
in ao you cant see anything when youre being hit by any explosion for example and it kills the flow of combat entirely and makes reaction more difficult, even if you parry you still get flashbanged which leads to pvp feeling disconnected and bad when it felt just fine in wom
I can’t remember the last time hitboxes bothered me in AO besides Calvus’ phase 2 blast that hits you when you dodge it from how big the explosion is. There’s still a fairly defined margin of what section can hit you. UNLIKE TUTENRAH IN AR!!!
Still on your atrocious takes arc I see.
Most people like Argos because instead of artificial difficulty from being teleporty and unable to be seen behind vfx. Sure this makes him easier, but people like him because he’s an honest boss, instead of “nothing personell kid” x400
this is why king calvus is my favorite boss to fight im ngl
king calvus has some big attacks but theyre nowhere near as disruptive as some other bosses (like how cernyx’s explosion spells literally take up the entire arena), its easy to see whats going on through most of the fight and that unfortunately cant be said for a lot of bosses and enemies in general
captain maria gets kinda close to what i like about king calvus, but that whole fight feels way too scripted (considering she only has like 6 set positions she can jump to and attack from), and maria’s big water tentacle attack is so easy to avoid that its legitimately just an annoyance everytime it happens and nothing else
arcane odyssey just needs to dial down the vfx a lot for some things im ngl (i play with 1 graphics quality and reduced vfx setting and its still really disruptive sometimes)
If I remember one thing in olden AO Times, we have White Eyes: I followed him on my Caravel at the time, and this dude kept 1shotting every NPC Sailboat or Caravel
