Chapter 10 Update Patch Notes (Discussion Thread)

well vetex is likely not gonna be the one building it this time unless he returns to ao before then

more experienced builders would probably take less time

hallowed grove is already finished

hallowed grove sounds spooky. you think ghosts are in there?

if you count mosquitoes yes

mosquitos arent ghosts, they come from hell and make me wanna rip my skin apart

I know someone who would REALLY agree with you

No, its apart of his fighting style: Asbestos Fist.

If you took one look at Ormolu you’d know the answer

ghosts tend to do that too

i think crystal furries do exist actually

I think it’ll depend on how much profit the game makes when these updates are released. A bit off topic but the relationship between game developer and fan is always a bit disturbing to me since it’s evidently a job to the game developer and yet to the fans it’s essentially a source of leisure. Now granted this sort of relationship is now universal all over the internet (everything is now a source of ā€œcontent creation,ā€ a lucrative way to siphon even more money from the pockets of rich labor aristocrats) but I always find it odd when fans are talking about someone’s literal job and taking on this faux-democratic entitled stance, where they essentially use the person’s livelihood as carrot and stick and demand that they accommodate them. Imagining a situation where my source of income was decided by a horde of angry children is genuinely terrifying.

Granted, these people are also essentially tiny capitalists anyway, using any and every innovative technique in the book to exploit the social tendencies of these fans and drain them of as much money as possible. In that sense I prefer Vetex’s misplaced pride and delusions of grandeur (no offense) to the more cynical content-creators who know their role and play it to the best of their ability, but I’m aware that there’s little structural difference anyway and both people are fundamentally parasitic (in the sense that most games produced under capitalism are worthless copies of other games ludologically and only rarely does true innovation happen; usually they ride on the narrative which is either a really bad attempt to emulate something in the past or is something like Undertale which barely count as a story anymore). The whole thing is just depressing. Is this how the world will work from now on? Will there really be future generations of people who know nothing other than this mutual parasitism?

I am the B*lance Lead. Step 1: nerf El Thermo. Step 2: buff La Sailor. Step 3. Buff The Shadow

Hallowed is just a fancy word for holy so that’s the one place there probably won’t be any ghosts (unless they’re the holy one).

honestly if they could work with Tobi for Dark Sea songs 3 and 4 that would improve the experience tremendously…

This is a rare chance though Tobi’s distanced himself from this turbulence

I’d not say distance but instead downright left

Ive spent about 25 bucks on AO on the premise that it will one day be a completed game. When he turns and leaves while blaming the community for reacting negatively to the game’s inadecuacies, that’s a breach of trust.

I went in expecting his many promises to be fulfilled, sure he doesnt have to keep them, but nobody likes charlatons, and my goodwill runs thin

and buff wind magic

500x knockback

Really? Well, it’s already happened so I can’t disprove that you spent it specifically wanting a finished game, but that is neither the general tendency on Roblox nor the truth of the desire of fans, or their behavior would make very little sense. I agree with this person from the other thread:

At least I agree that this is the general demographic tendency towards newer games, regardless of playability. Not to say that it is impossible for a game to be replayed but that there are far more games than there are game systems that exist right now. Therefore, for the vast majority of games, they run on hype and advertising and then burn out over one thing or the other. Players then migrate to more stable titles.

There are a limited amount of players with a limited amount of hours in a day that they can play. So the market for a game can really only get so fat. I don’t think Call of Duty and Fortnite will ever die (or, at least, be outcompeted) because they have already captured the vast majority of their market, but anything else that isn’t in that main ā€œcenterā€ of games of that game type are subject to the violence of the market and have to either genuinely innovate within the market they are in (which is rare these days), run on hype and advertising, or content itself with being a niche game (this is only really possible sometimes). Every year that graphics and game systems get remade this cycle restarts and the market opens again, and then it becomes a wild west for a while before the big hitters are established and the cycle continues.

Fans kind of just indulge in the hype train until the game inevitably dies. Then they go back to the reliable games anyway. I don’t get the impression that most of them expect the game to be complete since this would mean the hype cycle would die, which, at a given point in time, is what keeps the majority of people playing a game. Anyway, the question would be what AO’s position is in the Roblox game market. I don’t play Roblox that much but I’ve played it enough to know that Roblox MMORPGs tend to die especially quickly. I’m not sure what the structural reason behind that is.

one example of this is the forge. so hyped up it has 100k something players on release. now its just… couple thousand
