Chapter 10 Update Patch Notes (Discussion Thread)

Sir, yet another pointless artificial difficulty-inducing change under the disguise of immersion has hit Arcane Odyssey

Vetex had ONE job - to add a way to revert greases. And this is the execution. Wonderful.

Yo I’m crying, genuinely EVERYONE here hates this addition :sob:

Actually tho wtf is this, like WHAT was he thinking? I thought the armor stat reduction was going to be until you died, not PERMANENT?? And weapons can be “ruined” now?? HELLO???

No, not the weapons, only the armour. Weapons only got one change from this, being the grease removal

I pray not, but it may be

Ohh i read it wrong. Just realized it means armor can go from 50% ruined to 90%…for whatever reason

Doesn’t really make the situation any better, does it? Well, unless you were using weapons, obviously. An artificial difficulty that targets only one route out of four? Sounds incredible, doesn’t it? We got lucky this isn’t the case

I just don’t know how he could see the hate for this change and get annoyed at it, not saying he has or hasn’t yet, but he probably will just get annoyed and still add it…this is so disappointing

I’ve tried to keep my mouth shut about this feature but it was not easy. Complained about it before it was added, was told I needed to wait for it to be released before having an opinion.

In testing I never got it to really proc, but that’s probably because, surprise surprise, everything at those levels pretty much one shots you (except dragons but dragon moves are total rng and its really unreliable whether or not I can get it to hit me with the moves I want instead of shooting me with its instant death ray)

And Beast Defense is made even more of a problem that I have to try and fight for years on…

Its like my tanning wars part 2, and nothing will probably come of this again.

Yall know another problem with this? The already-meta power stacking, that makes you win fights as fast as possible, barely gets nerfed from this, due to them not having time to accumulate lots of damage on themselves. Regen-focused builds, meanwhile, are just screwed. It’s good that no particular route gives passive regeneration to its abilities and has regen stat on every piece of its unique equipment… right?

then what’s the point of this update (unless ur talking abt the really high tier dragons)

Oh look, Vetex made another inconvenient and annoying game mechanic that doesn’t seem to have any logical reason for existing. I’m sure this will be highly appreciated by the majority of players.

Unsarcastically though, what the fuck was your thought process with this one Vetex? How does this improve the game in any conceivable way?

Dragons don’t one shot you is what I’m saying. Even the really high level ones (the raid boss ones can, but thats only if you stand inside the very obvious ‘This attack will kill you’ sphere)

I also argued that this feature seems to punish people for interacting with dragons when… y’know… dragons are kinda the point of the update. Again though, as I’ve tested for like 30 minutes, its not as intrusive as people fear, which only leads me to ask… ‘Okay but why though’?

Still no bug fixes and nerfs to other annoying mechanics btw!

It’s like dirt buildup. It’s annoying, it’s ugly, it’s inconvenient, but on the plus side it’s iMmErSiVe. At least dirt buildup isn’t as invasive as lowering your gear stats.

I have been in tester chat over a year trying to get SOMETHING done to make Tanning and dirt more tolerable. Instead, they were made worse over time. (Something in this update also makes tanning specifically more annoying)

It feels like such an uphill battle. When I say ‘I’m going to try to suggest a toggle for Dirt and Tanning again!’ it can really sometimes end up as most testers just going ‘yeah good luck with that’.

The vanity of the game is being disrespected unless you are wearing a full suit of bulky armor, and I hate that.

Adding micromanaging gear durability to the game when dealing with powerful creatures will literally demotivate players to play. Like, “oh my super valuable build I spent ages putting together is ruined and I have no repair kits, well screw this game” and then they just leave for at least several months if not permanently. I don’t think there’s a single good thing about this mechanic tbh, even if it takes a long while to build up or repair kits are easy to come by.

remove water poisoning :cross_mark:
add another annoying “immersion” feature :white_check_mark:

Okay water poisoning is actual somewhat fair though. Prevents people from just outright living in the Dark Sea. More can be done with it in the future too. This though, this is a dead end mechanic. There is nowhere to go but down, it exclusively negatively impacts the game.

Other testers suggested making water poisoning have an actual visible buildup instead of coming out of nowhere. Water poisoning doesn’t bother me as much as it does other people, mainly cause I kinda get it. But the Dark sea is full of annoyances like that. (Don’t get me started on the epileptic insanity effects)
