Why can I press T to spit?
Sequels are meant to evolve upon their predecessorâs mechanics and remove critical design flaws to better the game.
Yes it would???
Why wouldnât it?
Iâd actually make the exact opposite argument:
The atmosphere of the game doesnât work because Iâm too focused on âoh shit Iâm about to lose my file if I fuck upâ.
I could literally not name a less immersive mindset.
The entirety of the depths is built around the permadeath system, name a single aspect of it that would work without it
Ok but the âcritical design flawâ is literally the games main feature
Imagine if dark souls removed hollowing or something
Youâre not ready for the streets
stocksounds just trying to find out how to play while these two argue
Right, again, the game told me to build a boat, and when I built one, it still says the same thing, is that right?
Yeah I donât think the forum filled with people ready at all times to complain about deepwoken was the best start to playing deepwoken
you probably need to spawn it too, if that doesnât work then just open your map and sail to the big landmass in the middle
Yeah the âset sailâ quest has been glitched since it was added lol open your map and sail to the big greyed out island
All of it.
The ENTIRE depths would work without permadeath.
What are you talking about?
Entering the depths, leaving the depths, and everything within, all 100% functional.
This, my friend, is a delusion, you have been gaslit by the deepwoken community.
Much like what you said in the same message.
Tell me, in detail, what game mechanics would actually cease to function without permadeath and why.
You will find very few answers and none of them will be important lol.
Permadeath is not a core mechanic to deepwoken, they just lobbed it in and said it was.
Got it.

Ahem
- Atmosphere is based around the tension
- The depths trial
- The diluvian mechanism
- Deepbound being a harder challenge
- Both of the floors of layer 2âs gimmicks
- Layer 2 floor 2 in general actually
- The fact that the game actually is canon to itself, meaning respawning would create a huge schism in that interesting interaction
- The eventual addition of layer 3
- Castle light and the chariots spireâs barrier
They absolutely built the depths around permadeath
ok so.
1: Not a game mechanic and false, if the atmosphereâs only redeeming quality is permadeath then its shit atmosphere lol
2: what about it? itâd work fine.
3: Isnât that just the place where you farm waves of enemies?
4: yea youâre still in the depths with all the harder enemies, still a harder challenge.
5 + 6: If layer 2âs single gimmick and redeeming quality is permadeath, layer 2 is shit.
7: âMUH LOER!!!â will never ever ever ever be a reason to fuck up gameplay, see: AO.
8: Refer to 5+6 but replace layer 2 with layer 3.
9: Not too knowledgeable on castle light but I somehow doubt it given the rest of what youâve said here.
hell no
Guys, I think I just accomplished something.
I saw a little coral thing pop out of the water, wasnât there before, took a look, and there were some fat coral zombies! Took them out easily, good fun, and I tell you, I ate good. More loot than Iâve seen in my entire playthrough!
Ohp, I think I may have just died.
Oh yeah, for sure.
I did not say that, I said they are built AROUND permadeath
Do you actually understand the gimmicks I thought that was pretty clear
Yes, and itâs point is you are risking your slot in exchange for extremely high tier loot
That isnât itâs only redeeming quality, where the fuck did I say that
Not much point in its existence if you can just reattempt it as much as you want
You could just run over to a hard mob, get a hit in, die, wait for someone else to kill it, and free loot+xp
Basically you HAVE to intentionally be in the depths, not having gotten there through dying. Removing permadeath breaks that
I thought the whole thing was that if you die then itâs done, why did I get to respawn? Is it taking pity on me?
dw too much about dying, you get a life back when you level up as long as you arenât in the depths
no thereâs 3 lives, 2 on the overworld and one in the depths
