Star’s Math :

Area of a circle: 3.14(pi) x r^2 (radius squared)

Now, let’s try and find the area of each pizza first if the pizza were whole. The 60° pizza will be Pizza A and the 45° pizza will be Pizza B. We know the radius due to how long each pizza slice is.

Pizza A: 3.14 x 6^2 = 113.04 in^2

Pizza B: 3.14 x 7^2 = 153.86 in^2

There’s just one problem though, how do we know how many slices are in each pizza? Well, we know that a whole pizza is 360°, so in order to find how many slices are in each pizza, we do 360 divided by the angle of the slices shown.

Pizza A: 360/60 = 6 slices

Pizza B: 360/45 = 8 slices

We will now take the whole area of each pizza and divide it by its number of slices to get the total area of one slice.

Pizza A: 113.04/6 = 18.84 in^2

Pizza B: 153.86/8 = 19.23 in^2

Pizza B is the winner, right? That’s not exactly right, there’s still one more piece of the puzzle that’s missing. In order to get as much pizza for the least amount of money possible, we need to figure out how much area is in $1 per slice of pizza. You could use 10¢ or even 1¢, but $1 is easier since we can use the prices already shown in the photo. We will now divide each pizza slice area by its price. We don’t divide the dollars by the area as we are trying to get area per dollar, not the other way around cough cough, Dr.Archipelago, cough cough

Pizza A: 18.84/1.5 = 12.56 in^2 per $1

Pizza B: 19.23/1.7 = 11.31 in^2 per $1

That all being said, Pizza A is the winner with the most area per dollar ! If you want to save more money while buying pizza in bulk, you should definitely choose Pizza A. If you’re just buying a singular slice of pizza, the difference between each slice is so small that I really wouldn’t worry all too much in how much you’re getting. I’d like more pizza, so I’d choose Pizza A
