Last question for today, can souls in this verse be used as batteries and has anyone been forced into being one?
They could theoretically but there’s just far better sources of power than an unwilling (or even consenting) human
In very stressful or miserable situations (like being held gutterman-style as a human battery), mages tend to build up their power rather than venting it like they normally would, making actual collection impractical
This behavior arose from natural selection since people who built up a vast energy reserve in trying times had a better survival chance than those who did not
Furthermore, a lot of mythological creatures see not with electromagnetic radiation but with magic, and releasing magical fumes is like a big “come eat me” sign to them
It becomes unhealthy to not vent one’s power from time to time; it causes general malaise
If someone were trapped and had no way of expressing their power, the almost invariable result is a phenomenon that actually occurs in real life that scientists like to call an explosion
Like in a reactor?
Anyways, thanks for letting me know that harvesting magic from humans is inefficient.
How is the metal used? Is it eaten, held, or what? (Definitely not taking notes for a magic system of my own that uses physical materials)
Presumably held (please do not eat the magical metal regardless of how tasty it looks)
What if I injected it into my blood
You get bleed blood disease, which gives 1+ bleed to all physical attacks.
they come in handheld form (wands, staffs, weapon blades, orbs, etc.) and accessory form (jewelry, piercings, bracelets, textiles)
you would get heavy metal poisoning
this uh
this isnt a game
dammit i thought this was a starscape remake
bro they revoked my regular role ![]()
i wish there was one out there
remains one of my favorite games of all time
does slightly bother me how ive had multiple projects (possibly up to 4) mentioned in this topic which is probably a little confusing
I don’t intend to flood off-topic with my worldslop though
Such a thing does not exist here in this topic
I’ve finally gotten a rough plan for how to make language (best part is i can keep using this plan even if i change the project entirely which has an unusually high risk of happening)
My intent is to draw inspiration from real-world Semitic languages
Each word would be created by stringing together consonants, forming a root
This root could then be modified (inflection) by adding an extra consonant or two and/or changing around the vowels
example using arabic (semitic triconsonantal root K-T-B)
As for how this language could be written, there are four options I can think of off the top of my head
- Alphabet (both vowels and consonants are written as full, equal letters) (youre looking at it)
- Abugida (only consonants written as full letters, vowels being secondary notation such as diacritics) (examples include thai, devanagari, and canadian aboriginal syllabics)
- Abjad (fuck vowels entirely) (examples include almost every semitic language that has ever existed like arabic and hebrew)
- Syllabary (organize symbols into vowel-consonant pairs) (examples include cherokee and, most famously, japanese)
Alphabet please for the love of GOD I don’t want to have to learn another language that gives me pain.
I mean it would still be a language
The writing system being different would only make it marginally more difficult to learn unless its a logography which I have no time to make
Your setting, but bruuuuhhhh
ok its been a very long time
ive been working more on the map and the conlang; both are coming along very nicely
one tiny lore update is that one of the characters does in fact have a (misdemeanor) criminal conviction
specifically she got arrested for removing a parking boot with an angle grinder
whenever I hear it said I think they’re saying “ankle grinder”
considering I fist heard about them on one of those hospital channels where some guy almost killed himself with one, I, uh runs out of things to say uh yup.
