I have been extremely busy for the past three months writing a short novel (176 pages). It is the first major writing I have ever completed and has gone through 2 major edits in the course of this time.
I am going to find some way to have a more solid claim over its contents before publishing it to the internet wholly, but I’ll try to get it out there soon! It’s shitty writing, but it’s my shitty writing. Sorry for the inactivity, again.
That’s two pages per day. You really were busy, holy smokes.
Teach me your ways, please. I have fanfic that must be made.
The first draft took about over a month. The two consecutive edits took longer, bringing the page count from ~125 to ~180 somehow, so overall I’ve been at this for almost, actually, 4 months.
My advice is that you have to build it from the ground up. Start with only scattered ideas and start forming them into a concept. Then, eventually, make a script and stash ideas alongside that to slot in as you develop it. After this write a first draft, then go in and edit it however many times, and then read it to yourself for grammar & wording checks.
Your motivation should be the story you’re writing. If you don’t like doing it, unless you’re close to completion, that’s a sign that maybe you should trace your steps and see if you have your original passion and drive to write whatever you’re writing. I switch ideas and fixations so fast this part is hard for me, but I managed to stick with Aerin all throughout the writing process.
One issue: my motivation lasts exactly 1 day for anything. My determination then lasts maybe 1 day after that. Once that’s through—whuh oh.
RELATABLE!
Don’t feel pressured to write- it has to be something you really, really want to do. It’s a reason why I think writing professionally is a bad idea, since you’re now swallowed by deadlines and monetary incentive instead of genuine passion. While Aerin stemmed from an idea I developed in only a few days, throughout making its script, I had made something better, and became more attached to it.
I’ve found that sometimes isolating myself to my material of inspiration has been helpful in continuing to write, but I really wouldn’t recommend it as it is unhealthy. Be sure to read and write a variety of things for inspiration and upkeeping your skills.
Exactly! Write when you feel like it and you’ll have much more fun.
I kinda want to make more map recreations in google sheets, what does the map look like again?
The Equinox map is up at the original post. If you’re asking about the map for Aerin, it is given only in text & dialogue.
