jeffery epstein is a “man” (quotation marks because he did awful things) who did really bad things on his private island relating to children and also is noteable for having had many powerful and rich people visit said island to do said bad things as well. He supposedly hung himself in his jail cell (supposedly because it’s pretty clear he was assassinated due to such evidence as an entire minute being missing in the prison camera feed right when it happened), but there were flight logs and other stuff which could reveal who visited said island. However, the Trump Administration, who promised to release the epstein files, released most of them heavily and extremely redacted, such that it’s impossible to actually see who diddled kids (except for Bill Clinton, who was basically targeted by the administration to make him look as bad as possible). Some parts are over a hundred pages of pure black, with the singular word “Epstein” being unredacted in the middle. As this was extremely disappointing, it’s become a common joke to say “release the files!”, or some sort of variation, in reference to this.
