2 guys took the same chest in the same time which made one of them lose control of character and stuck in other player? I have experienced that multiple times.
Can be solved if the one who stuck will put chest down.

did the game attempt to spawn it as a Warden and make it unable to kill you but still able to aggro or something

It might actually be something else causing it, I had an atlantean attacking me with metal magic and then suddenly it just stopped. It had not been moving while attacking me though.

You realize the important part as to her being in there is that she plotted to kill him, not him breaking up with her
