Do we prefer the AO map or WoM map?

I love the AO map in which when you sail by a diving spot you get ganked by 15 sharks.

I much preferred the WoM map. I really, really hope one of the upcoming seas is taken up mostly by a larger island.

Ravenna mountain missed the chance to have lots of tunnels going through and a mountain city on the top and inside. Similar to like how the mines are underneath. The mine area also couldv’e been made much larger rather than super tight and have large tools inside with magic machinery.

i mistook ravenna as mount othrys when i first saw the two :skull:

map is okay tho and geographically/geologically plausible. i just wish it sprawled out more in a circle and or ellipse fashion rather than a pill shape

Shell island is the only island I like, because it actually feels like an island - the other ones just lac the same feeling

redwake is pretty nice too imo.

personally, cernunno, orthys, and ravenna are all pretty underwhelming, and I hope the next sea gives us more interesting and large islands to explore.

wom map didn’t even get to 30% of what it would be and it is alredy better than the entire bronze sea

redwake was pretty much one of the few locations I really liked and even then it was pretty small but for a starter town I can ignore that so it doesn’t matter

I think having multiple really big islands spread across the sea and then the smaller ones scattered around would’ve been better. If ravenna didn’t have the mounain blocking all the space then it’s size would be alright but I think experimenting with larger size islands like half of othrys would be much more appealing.

I want to dock my boat at an island and stay there for a while not just bounce around everytime

In terms of Land vs Ocean in general, I don’t think one is better than the other, it just gotta be done right design and feel wise

What I do think is vetex branching out to the more quirky and unique types of islands, like almost reaching crack type of islands. I think the reason why there isn’t more extreme and unique islands is due to lore constrictions, though vetex already has the story and setting planned so I gotta let him cook for a bit here for the rest of the Seas

The WOM map i’m not too sure about because my brain has been ingrained of the painful experience of walking in WOM (nor I have played any other game with an open continent world). I did like the potential WOM continent because of AA fanservice and how far itll go, just needed Horses but unfortunately Vetex doesn’t do those

Agreed, I’d say it’s unfair to compare the World of Magic and Arcane Odyssey maps together because they were designed for completely different purposes.

World of Magic has a very dense map that is filled with secrets because it was designed with exploration in mind. In Arcane Odyssey, the islands had to be less explorable because the ocean and naval systems were in center focus, and some locations had to be allocated for story purposes.

The only thing that WoM had over AO in terms of map design, in my opinion, is that towns in WoM had a culture in the form of special items/clothing that could only be worn or used if your character was from that town. AR had something similar with Savaria, Doom Island and Sky Island. WoM’s map also felt really flat in some areas.

Honestly I hopoed Ravenna would be really explored of how vetex mentioned it being as big as four islands

This, WoM felt somehow more free, like a walk in a park.

I would much rather prefer walking around a large map than sailing across large swaths of ocean to explore a couple of small islands

Hope the nimbus sea has like 1 or 2 mega islands mount othrys size. It would combine the grand scale of the wom map while keeping the content that comes from ao’s ocean and would be peak map design

ao map is better built (especially the trees, some of the tree models in wom had super messed up normals so they were an eyesore to look at), but wom map was much more fun to explore and the secrets were better hidden

ao exploring is a pain because if you have high ping (99.99% of the time) you cant turn

i only miss riverville’s theme, silent tower and specifically the lighthouse in ironport

Riverville’s little energetic and adventurous theme really does something for the brain. It’s uplifting and gives you a sense to explore the world.

Hopefully it’ll come back (but I doubt it how would Vetex execute that)
