Dragon Update Patch Notes (Discussion Thread)

Knowing vetex, we’re probably going to get it in like january or february

Fishing is important and should not be demoted from its place of honoure on the menu.

What if wind mage epicenter travel program…

Been saying it and will continue saying it, fishing needs a rework. Some mentally engaging and actuallly fun minigame that is skill based and rewarding if you do really well and/or get lucky, with a rod’s stats and luck effects just making it easier to obtain the better drops. I’m bored out of my god damn mind with the current “minigame” if you can even call it that. Should scale the reward in value and/or amount depending on how long the player lasts in the minigame perhaps if it’s about endurance and not reaction timing or positioning based.

Been saying it and will continue saying it, we don’t need to do 95 accuracy and timing-based minigames to catch a shitty anchovy

So you like sitting there for 100 hours to get luck potions and even longer for sunken doing the exact same mind numbing task that takes 2 brain cells to accomplish? You say that as if it wouldn’t be a rewarding minigame and would be exceedingly difficult which isn’t what I said at all.

Would you rather do the same monotonous unrewarding task for countless hours praying to the RNG gods for a morsel of something good, or just get good at a minigame and a little lucky to get something good? I imagine if you do well in the minigame but get a fairly common fish you’d catch multiple at once to reward the player for the time spent still.

Yes.

Guess everyone has their tastes but to me it’s the most boring fishing mechanic in any game I’ve played ever. Hades, Cult of the Lamb, Gedonia, Terraria, Fisch, Deepwoken, Rimworld, LoZ: Twilight Princess, Red Dead Redemption 2, Minecraft, and Stardew Valley are all games I’ve played and not one has a fishing mechanic even remotely as boring or unrewarding. Fishing in Hades is literally just a reaction timing minigame with a sound cue but it’s satisfying and the fish are actually worth something.

People thinking the fishing is good enough or couldn’t be as good or better than the fishing in any of those games seriously lacks in imagination and gaming experience. That or they already don’t interact with fishing much and just don’t care to begin with, which is valid. I’ve caught some great things in Arcane Odyssey, but 99% of the time I catch utterly worthless garbage. And y’know, spending a good 40 minutes in between each tiny dopamine hit making little-to-no progress engaging in the most uninspiring minigame possible isn’t what I’d call fun game design. The current fishing feels like a placeholder.

Nope, I just find overcomplicated fishing to be just that, on top of being monotonous

I feel like you’re assuming the state of a minigame that doesn’t even exist yet which is silly. I’d argue the current fishing is significantly undercomplicated, or I guess underdeveloped would be a better word to use. Wouldn’t you like to have some control in how good your catch is, and be able to choose to some degree what it is you catch? The more things they add that you can catch while fishing down the line, the more unlikely it is you’ll catch the things you’re looking for, resulting in many more hours wasted on a boring task. Arcane Odyssey deserves better fishing, because right now it’s a dirt stain on a brilliant jade sculpture. All I’m doing right now is advocating for the improvement of what is in my opinion the worst part of Arcane Odyssey.

So are you.

Item chance won’t be changed with new fish or items being added, and neither will sunken chance.

Uh, no? I’m presenting the possibility of a better minigame and you’re limiting what it could become to something bad for some reason, just assuming it can’t be good.

Perhaps not item chance, but the chance of getting the specific item you want will be. A new fishing minigame could allow for the player to, after playing extremely skillfully, potentially guarantee getting exactly the item or fish they were looking for by choosing to fish it up. That is one possibility. Could also just implement crates or chests with many items in them like in Deepwoken or Terraria.

Right now the rate at which you catch things and the value of the things you catch is just too low man. It’s not rewarding and it quickly becomes unpleasant to deal with. There’s a reason people made and use fishing macros even though they could be banned for it. It takes bare minimum 25 hours straight with an ensnaring bronze rod to hit the sunken pity, does that sound like a good use of your time, to get one good item? Realistically it’ll take like twice that amount of time. Y’know, the length of a whole AAA game’s main story. Doesn’t even need to be easier to get sunken items or anything, it should just feel fun to fish, because this is a video game and they’re supposed to be fun, all I’m sayin’.

Look man neither of us will accept the other one’s opinion so let’s just stop clogging the thread.
You think that would be good, I think that would suck. Until we see it implemented, neither has any basis.

More accurate to say I think it could be good and you think it can never be good but alright fair enough.
Shoves an entire box of games with better fishing mechanics back on the shelf.

vetex said were fighting our first curse user at around level 180 and who knows maybe they retreat because back up arrived and they just so happened to leave behind one of their accessories on accident

Maine uses Gamma Plasma, he’s officially the GOAT.
