Correct me if I’m wrong but the Lua Roblox uses is unique to Roblox and switching all of the code from Roblox lua to some other language would be too much time and effort than Vetex wants to put in
Awful if true
There’s also the costs of server upkeep if he planned to keep it multiplayer (money which vetex doesn’t have)
Plus there would probably be a ton of assets that would have to be completely remade for some other engine/language
Ultimately, the costs outweigh the benefits. Similar to Red, I think, where the roblox LUA is just better to work with for her and that she doesn’t need to pay for servers.
This will suck absolute ass for clans/guilds. Only way I can see anyone getting around it would be if there were specific banner-like items, but instead of the clan/guild logo, it had messages like “Follow Me” or “Retreat” that showed on the screens of nearby clan members.
even if this was wrong:
- You’d need to replace every asset
Sound effects? All changed because they were borrowed from the Roblox Library / Hosted by Roblox as to take care of legal issues.
Models? Better hope you find a 3d artist who can do every region that previously existed. Everything from weapons, armor, buildings— hell the characters too. Even if a simpler style was taken, it’d still take hours given the items AO has.
Thankfully Music and Art is mostly dealt with, but the prior two convienently happen to be the part that takes forever.
- The backend. Turns out Roblox’s engine handles a lot of backscene stuff.
Basically everything native to Roblox’s domain would have to be redone. People often bring up servers, but things like Physics, Update management, and Compatibility will also need to be managed in entirely new way. One that nobody seems to mention is advertising. Roblox handles that and charges you nothing to keep games up, most other people do. Sure, we’d probably play an Arcane game whever it goes, but losing the front-page marketability of Roblox is a major hit.
- The actual Code
Yeah, as you mentioned, nobody else really has a game engine with Lua (it isn’t exclusive to Roblox, but without Roblox, theres a 90% chance it wouldn’t be as heard of tbh). Unity is C#; Unreal is C++; Godot is… Godot; etc. If Vetex had to make his own engine, then that’d take even more time. Hell, even if there was a port, game engines have a ton of exclusive feature— good luck doing anything with a C# monobehaviour without the Unity Engine. Whatever route is taken will cost code to be mostly redone.
Man, if Roblox gets any worse, it’ll almost feel like the creation of an Arcane game is the siren for Roblox to do something to destroy their games in one way or another.
ew chatgpt
where
the whole thing reeks of ai
Oh honey, that is way easier to do in theory. Sure, AO could 100% be its own game off the Roblox platform if Vetex really wanted it to be that way, but at what cost?
- Every last model would need to be remade.
- Character customization would have to be tackled like the fuckin’ Sisyphus boulder.
- Because Roblox’s Lua is actually different from regular, no-nonsense Lua, some systems or perhaps even the entire game would break.
- Roblox’s engine handles so much for you, that a considerable length of time would be needed to recreate systems like lighting and physics.
- As @dukeshade said, there isn’t really a game engine built specifically with Lua in mind. Sure, there might be a way to make Lua somewhat compatible with another engine, but if you’re going to figure that out, you may as well make a game engine yourself.
Now I don’t exactly know the logistics of this, but if Vet wanted the game to stay as a multiplayer thing, then he could have servers rely on peer-to-peer connections, with players acting as hosts. There’s another game I play kind of like AO (that I won’t bring up) that does that, and as far as I’m aware, it doesn’t cost the dev a dime.
you haven’t read it then. AI does not uselessly use grammar as i do (and i don’t think it tends to contain as much information in Parentheses as i do). Also minor quirks i carry like random capitalization.
also, re-reading it, I’ve probably left way more than enough grammar errors as that comment was just meant to be a simple response. I usually fix spelling errors, but my Syntax is horrible; and if a machine designed to write happened to have as crappy writing as i did then this bubble should’ve been burst.
Mfers will say this and then complain when it takes a long ass time. Like, wayyyyyyyy longer than FR, or even TGR
Alright, still seems very AI ish though. Hope people don’t annoy you too much about it
True but I ain’t complaining atleast
I think I’ve gotta prepare for the worst
— I don’t even use AI enough to know what signs of AI people have to avoid it, like realistically how would that work? GPT has an API that you can customize; ideally, if you tried hard enough, you could probably get it to mimick any speaking style enough.
I’m only glad I am not going into informational writing, I’d probably flag myself into a corner.
the em dashes are the biggest flag
What keyboard even has em dashes?
like all of them?
It’s a damn shame that em dashes are such a big part of how AI writes, I love using those things, but if I used them, then people would think I’m using AI.
AI fucking sucks.
