the gem would give 40% breathing/swim speed, so 20% of one of the buffs would be lost and the other buff would give 80%

what are you talking about, the description of that gemā€™s effect is fairly clear.
no stats of its own but double secondary stats, that means each gem would give 20% of its secondary stat at max roll instead of 10%, 5 gems for air capacity and 5 gems for swim speed using the new reagent for tide potions likely to be added in the dark sea update.

100% on both.

Auric seaweed only gives 10% each naturally, though.
the specific gem is what would make it 20%, I think you accidentally repeated a step to get 40% lol.

As someone who grinded perfect jewelcrafting I donā€™t mind too much since the 50% energy regen I already have combined with the stats the jewels give will make dark sea combat more manageable than it otherwise would be.

Iā€™m almost at 100% and itā€™s completely insane. After getting it I could get bronze sea diver without water breathing potions.

I can see someone running a 100% air capacity using 5 musgravite gems and then putting everything else into swim speed and then just living at the bottom of the darksea outswimming everything.

That gives me a story ideaā€¦
